Brief Description

'Arkan tartmay' (tug-of-war). The game is played by both women and men on flat area. • Arkan tartmay' directly puts two teams against each other m a test of strength. All participants must be the same in strengtb and the age. The rope 'arkan' is the most important equipment and it should be at least 4-Sm long. The objective of the game is to win by pulling the opposition towards the centre so that they pass the centre line, resu lting in a win.

'Toguz korgool' is a logic table game. Th.: purpose of a game i~ to coiled as many korgools as possible. 'Korgools' mean treddles in Kyrgyz language. Pebbles similar to the form and size of treddles are used in the game. The essence of the game lies in development of thin king and analytical skil ls, whereas in the past. the game was directed to develop strategic thinking as each korgool symbolized one warrior. The game has 18 playing and 2 reservoir holes. Among the Turks. the number 9 (9 p laying holes. each hos 9 bal ls initially) considered to be a sacred number. The game may continue for 4-5 hours. In the course of the game, players have to 11Se all four key mathematical operations. The game is built not only on the speed of calculation. but on the tactics as well.

'Salbuurun' is a complex hu11tu1g game wilh golden eagles, 'taigan' dogs (lhe Kyrgyz breed of greyhounds) and bo". In lhe modem salbuurun, golden eagles participate in two exercises: 'chyrga' and ·ondok'. ln rhe first e;xercise, each bcrkutchi (eagle master) lets his eagle Oying towards moulage, which is entailed by a galloping rider. The eagle bas to reach and grasp it. Here. time and speed of the golden eagle are estimated. The golden eagle is seated ar a distance of200 meters in 'ondok' exercise. l\t the judge's signal, the hunter holloes his eagle holding bait in his hands. Here, the arrival time of the eagle to his owner's hand is estimated. 'Taigan zhal)•sh' is a race organized for the greyhounds. Dog's agility is detennined by the speed of its run at a distance of 350 meters. Dogs chase the moulages that are entailed by the horse rider. ' Zhaa atuu' is shooting with a traditional bow (archery).

Falconry is a cultural heritage of Kyrgyz people that has been transmitted from generations. Hunting with falcons was one of the ways of tradit ional life support of nomadic Kyrgyz peopl<l. Falconry encompasses a wide range of traditional knowledge and skills. belief, ritual practices, and oral history. Mainly, falconry is based on the relationship between a man and a bird. In the course of this interaction, a falconer tamed a bird to his needs, and bird nurtumed falconer such qualities as sensitivity, endurance and caring attitude to the world of nature. The model of interaction between man and bird enabled the falconer to develop respect and a caring attitude towards all of his surroundinit. Bearers and

I ivelihoods, which included hunting with birds of prey. Such hunting practices are alive today due to cumulative body of traditional knowledge which has ideas of sustainable use of resources at its core. These ideas are also reflected in falconry, which is a traditional practice of hunting with falcons. Falconry retained the methods and practices of sustainable use of natural resources and conservation of biodiversity. Hunting with falcons docs not use modem hunting gear which is why it does 1101 negatively affect the populations of wild animals and bird,;. Nowadays, hunting with falcon is a national game that is popular in KyrS)zstan.

Training a falcon requires a lot of patience and time. Falcons are birds, which do not tolerate disrespectful treatment. But if a falconer manages to establish rapport, falcon serves him/her faithfully. The rules have been adopted for complexc hunting games of the Kyrgyz people. Dalba oinotuu hunting with a falcon, competition looks at how quickly a falcon attacks a mock-up prey. Each falconer has three minutes to show what his falcon is capable of. Ouring these three minutes a falcon should ny up in the sky and imitate on attack on a mock-up prey. which is traditionally made out c,f wooden frame or a horseshoe wrapped in leather or felt and decorated with pigeoa 's or pheasant's tail or wing feathers. A falconer swings the mock-up prey around on a rope. The judges look al how many times a falcon flied up and imitated an attack. The falconer who gets the most point wins. Kyrgy.Gstau is one of the countries hunting with falcons. a very unique tradition that shows the relationship between man and bird. .
