2013 is an exciting year for the West Hollywood Chamber, starting with Vision Forward West Hollywood – this year’s theme for our Annual Member Meeting and Board Installation (AMMBI). AMMBI will be held on Thursday, February 28, 2013 from 8:00 to 10:30AM at the famous House of Blues on The Sunset Strip. Think of it as a “stakeholders” meeting – but with more engagement, network opportunities and, well …more fun, West Hollywood style! You are Members and this is YOUR Chamber! You have a stake in this community and your investment in this corporation. You are the most important part of this organization and your voice is vital in its continued development for the business community. A buffet breakfast with table top displays of various business service, products and development will be showcased, followed by an informative and interactive program where we will highlight all the great programs we are initiating this year. We will take a look at our past year with the presentation of the 2012 Annual Report, and then take a look ahead to our exciting plans for 2013 with the unveiling of our EAT. SHOP. PLAY West Hollywood – a business to consumer “Shop Local” program, and a snap shot of the Chamber’s very exciting new website with interactive directory features and live Social Media feeds. You won’t want to miss this presentation and how these important new programs are vital to for your business. And finally, we will install our new board of directors and have a lively question and answer with the Chamber leadership. Led by a moderator, these individuals will share their hopes and vision for the West Hollywood Chamber and its business community. Reserve your seat today! See you on February 28th at the House of Blues!

“One of the most attractive features of the West Hollywood Chamber of Commerce is that it has an amazing diversity of membership,
from owners of world-class hotels and restaurants, to small business owners and entrepreneurs. Despite the number of powerhouse
members, however, the Chamber’s intimate size allows its members to become known within the West Hollywood community,
and to call this vibrant section of Los Angeles their ‘neighborhood.’”–Jennifer Grady, Esq., The Grady Firm

DO IT LOCAL! The West Hollywood Chamber of Commerce is launching EAT. SHOP. PLAY. WEST HOLLYWOOD, a “shop local” consumer-driven program designed to generate local spending and visitation to West Hollywood businesses. A website designed by Chamber member iMast Media at www.eatshopplayweho.com, promotes our various EAT WEHO, SHOP WEHO and PLAY WEHO businesses, and promotes “deals” and “specials” for services and products available to the consumer. Special VIP incentives for local residents will be featured, as well as highlight specific events and promotions happening around West Hollywood and within our businesses. The brand developed by RED Studios, separated into three distinctive identities, is designed for use with various West Hollywood promotions and events. For example EAT WEHO can be used for a dining promotion, a Taste of West Hollywood event, or Thursday night Sunset Strip Farmers Market. SHOP WEHO might be used for The Avenues Holiday Shopping promotion or Fashion’s Night Out event, while PLAY WEHO has a multitude of uses such as, Halloween, LA Pride, Sunset Strip Music Festival, to name just a few. With support from Visit West Hollywood and the City of West Hollywood, EAT.SHOP.PLAY (ESP) will be a featured link on their prospective websites, and a partnered link with our Business Improvement District websites.
With the help from the brains at Multibrain, The Chamber’s Facebook page will feature tabs specifying those businesses that cater to each ESP category. The EAT. SHOP. PLAY WEST HOLLYWOOD program will be promoted throughout greater Los Angeles on billboards, and in print ads as well as, on reusable bags sponsored by our partners at ATHENS Services in conjunction with the City’s plastic bag ban. Chamber Members are included at no charge and we encourage all businesses in West Hollywood to be a part of this exciting program. Advertising opportunities will be available at special WHCC Member rates.Bottom line – ESP is designed to “drive” business to your door! If your business serves the consumer and you wish to be included in the ESP program or would like more information, please call the Chamber at 323-650-2688 or email us at [email protected]. Check out the ESP website at www.eatshopplayweho.com.

A Message from Congressman Adam Schiff: Earlier this month, I was sworn in to serve as the Representative for California’s 28th Congressional District, which includes the City of West Hollywood. I’m excited about the chance to represent such a vibrant and diverse community where people come to live, work, and play. I’ve already had the opportunity to meet many West Hollywood residents and businesses, and I can’t wait to hear from more of you. I’m finding that just as it is in the nation as a whole, people in the community put their top priority on jobs and economic growth. That’s my priority in Congress as well, and I hope we can stay on track with our economic recovery and avoid any further brinksmanship in Washington that could send us back into recession. As we begin a new Congress, I will continue to focus on easy things we can do to help foster growth, particularly in our region. Small businesses have powered the country out of every recession in history – and they will again prove to be the true engine of growth in these challenging times. The last bill Congress voted on in2012 provided some tax relief to small

Due to new district lines drawn by the California Citizens Redistricting Commission, Senator Ted Lieu will now represent West Hollywood in the California State Senate. Looking for a better life and opportunity for their children, Ted Lieu’s family immigrated to the United States when Ted was three years old. With the support of hard-working parents and a country that provided limitless opportunity, Ted would go on to attend Stanford for his undergraduate degrees in Computer Science and Political Science, and then Georgetown University, where he received his law degree magna cum laude after serving as Editor-in-Chief of the law review. Ted also received four American Jurisprudence Awards. Recognizing the great opportunities America had given to his family, Ted wanted to serve his country. He joined the United States Air Force, where he served as a prosecutor in the JAG corps which brought him to Southern California. Professionally, Ted clerked on the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, practiced civil law at Munger, Tolles & Olson, and then worked at a financial services company before he joined the Legislature. Locally, Ted continued to serve his community and was elected tothe Torrance City Council and then the localAssemblymember passed away suddenly in

businesses and renewed Section 170 which gives tax breaks to businesses for certain purchases, as well as the Work Opportunity Tax Credit to incentivize businesses to hire youths and veterans, and improvement tax credits for restaurants and retail businesses. These are the types of policies that we need to keep our country moving in the right direction, drive growth and innovation, and lead us into a sustainable and lasting recovery. And here at home in West Hollywood, a popular destination for locals and tourists alike, my focus will continue to be on how to support our local businesses. A few months ago, I met with stakeholders from the travel and tourism industry – a major part of our national and local economy – to discuss how we can work together to strengthen our businesses and create jobs. The travel industry – from the large hotel chain to the mom-and-pop souvenir store on the corner – represents 2.7% of our GDP, and directly employs 7.5 million workers nationwide.
In addition to these efforts to boost our economy, I will continue to work on several other local and national priorities, like seeking helicopter altitude and flight path restrictions, expanding the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area, and enacting responsible gun control legislation. I look forward to continuing the conversation with you over the coming years. If I can ever be of help to you, I hope that you will reach out to my office at (323) 315-5555 or visit my website at www.schiff.house.gov – for help with casework, possible events, comments or to subscribe to my email newsletter.

County of Los Angeles. The agency coordinates policy and advocacy on issues of regional significance, particularly homelessness, social services, sustainability and public transportation. In 2009, Bloom was appointed to the California Coastal Commission whose mission is to protect, conserve, restore, and enhance environmental and human-based resources of the 1,100-mile California coast and ocean for environmentally sustainable and prudent use by current and future generations. In the private sector, Bloom has nearly 30 years of experience practicing family law, and has also worked in the non-profit world assisting low-income clients and the homeless. He has served as a volunteer Judge Pro Tem and mediator for the Los Angeles Superior Courts and on the Executive Committee of the Los Angeles County Bar Association Family Law Section.
Born in Philadelphia, Bloom grew up in Altadena and West Los Angeles. He attended Fairfax High School, the University of California (Los Angeles and Berkeley) and Loyola School of Law. He holds a B.A. in Communication and Public Policy as well as a Juris Doctor degree. He is married to Robbie Black, a healthcare professional and administrator at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. Assemblymember Bloom has two young adult children, Zac and Emmett.
2005, Ted was overwhelmingly elected in a special election. While serving three terms in the Legislature, Ted was a leader, repeatedly standing up to powerful interests on behalf of consumers, crime victims, seniors, children, and those without a voice.
In 2012, for example, the governor signed 13 of the 15 Lieu bills that reached his desk, including a halt to using packs of dogs to hunt either bears or bobcats, and the first-in-the-nation ban on sexual orientation conversion ‘therapy’ (which Lieu says is psychological child abuse) for gay children under 18. In 2011, laws he sponsored helped create jobs, save taxpayer dollars and protect children by banning anyone under 18 from using cancer-causing tanning beds. In recognition of his hard work, Governing Magazine, a national publication on policy and governance, in 2011 for the second consecutive year named him one of the 12 top lawmakers in the nation as ‘worth watching’ and the only Californian. He also has been honored for his work by the CA Partnership to End Domestic Vio-lence, Crime Victims United of California, the California State Sheriffs Association, the American Legion of California, CalPIRG, Environment California, the Humane Society and many others. He served as Chair of the Assembly Banking and Finance Committee, Chair of the powerful Rules Committee and as Chair of the Select Committee on Con-sumer Financial Protection. The love of his life, his wife Betty, is a former California Deputy Attorney General. They reside in the city of Torrance with their two sons – Brennan and Austin.

Assemblymember Richard Bloom was elected in November 2012 to represent California’s 50th Assembly District. The district is comprised of Agoura Hills, Malibu, Topanga, Pacific Palisades, Bel Air, Brentwood, Santa Monica, Beverly Hills, West Hollywood and parts of West Los Angeles and Hollywood. In the Assembly, Bloom plans to focus on good government and job creation, improving public school funding and outcomes, providing services for seniors and the disabled, ending homelessness, and protecting California’s environment, causes he has championed during his tenure as Mayor of Santa Monica. First elected to the Santa Monica City Council in 1999, Bloom just ended his third, non-consecutive, term as Mayor. He has also served two terms as Mayor pro Tem during his 13 years on the City Council. Bloom served as Chair of the 30-member Santa Monica Bay Restoration Commission that is charged with facilitating and overseeing plans to restore the health of the 266 square mile Santa Monica Bay and its 400 square mile watershed. He also served as Chair of the Westside Cities Council of Governments, a regional policy agency consisting of Santa Monica, West Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Culver City and the City and

She only hires caregivers that she would trust to care for her own family.

Creative City Awards 2012: Honoring Innovation in Business was a huge success! With a sell-out crowd of 330 guests, the event exceeded revenue expectations by 70%! Presented by our sponsor DOHENY LLC, the event was attended by the “Who’s Who” of the West Hollywood business community. Held for the past five years at The London the room was packed to the gills. The London has been a long time sponsor of the event along with fellow Chamber members Cedars Sinai, City of West Hollywood, Century West BMW, Clear Channel Outdoor, Gilmore Bank, House of Blues, Mani Brothers, Monarch Group and Essex Property Trust, Wells Fargo, US Bank and Visit West Hollywood. This gala is the Chamber’s most prestigious and longest-running event, now in its 29th year, and one of its most important fundraisers. The Chamber staff pulled out all stops to deliver an event that was fun, exited and a little less predictable. At the pre-reception, sponsored by our wonderful neighbor Beverly Center, guests were entertained by none other than the great Louie Betran Cruz, thanks to our long time and talented Chamber member Corniche Entertainment. As the dinner kicked off, guests were seated at tables centered with gorgeous arrangements by Garden of Eve, classically trained Soul Violinist, Lee England, Jr. brought the crowd to its feet. For the finale Louie brought his congas up on stage with an impromptu duo as Lee fiddled an Adele tune on the violin. Chamber Chair Hany Haddad and West Hollywood Mayor Jeffrey Prang welcomed the crowd, and then all heck broke loose when Master of Ceremonies Comedian ANT brought his hyper, irreverent, and just downright fabulous talent to the stage splitting our sides with humor. While a technical glitch might have brought the show to a screeching halt, ANT, carried on and more laughter filled the space until Mountain Media got us back on track with our video presentation! All 18 amazing nominees were highlighted in a video created by Off Tatum Productions, a dedicated chamber member who spent hours taping and editing for the best showcase while designing a lighting program that matched the amazing creative work of RED Studios who designed the promotional materials for the event. Awards from Doug Fregolle Productions were presented to six lucky business winners who were voted for by the West Hollywood Chamber Members, as photographers Robert Antal of Hollywood Pro Photography and West Hollywood expert photographer Richard E. Settle captured it all on camera. 10
