About the Youth Fund Established in year 2006 as one of the strategies of addressing youth unemployment. Transformed into a state corporation in year 2007 Is one of the flagship projects of the social pillar of Vision 2030 Provides loans and business support services to youth owned enterprises Services provided by the Fund The Fund provides the following services to youth owned enterprises Loans for business startup or expansion Commercial infrastructure (trading premises) Marketing of products and services of youth enterprises in both domestic and the international markets Linkages with large enterprises Business development services including entrepreneurship training, mentorship, coaching, networking In addition, the Fund also facilitates employment of youth in the international labour market LOAN PRODUCTS The Fund has developed a wide range of products to meet the diverse needs of young business people. The Fund offers group and individual loans: Group loans have no interest, only a management fee of 5% one off Groups must be registered by the relevant government body Group must have at least 10 members Group membership must be at least 70% youth (18 to 34 years) Group must be youth led The following are the group loans at the constituency level: C-YES Rausha Loan C-YES Inua Loan C-YES Special loan This is a constituency based loan that targets new group projects. Its a start up loan. Features of the loan · Maximum amount of loan is Ksh. 50,000 - Ksh 100,000 · No interest · Management fee of 5% one off · 3 months grace period. · The repayment period is 12 months. This is a constituency based loan intended to finance RUNNING GROUP projects and therefore for EXPANSION purposes only. Features of the loan · 1 st loan maximum amount is Ksh. 100,000 payable in 12 months · 2 nd loan is Kshs.200,000 payable in 18 months · 3 rd Loan is Kshs. 400, 000 payable in 24 months · 2 months grace period · No interest · Management fee of 5% one off The applying group must: · Have a running business This loan targets youth groups carrying out special business projects whose proceeds are generated on periodical or pre-determined irregular periods. Features of the loan · Maximum amount for startups is Ksh. 50,000 payable within 1 year · Maximum amount for business expansion is Ksh. 100,000 payable in 12 months · 2 nd loan is Kshs. 200,000 payable in 18 months · 3 rd loan is Kshs. 400,000 payable in 24 months · Grace period determined by nature of business. 2. Individual loans at the constituency level The following are individual Youth loans at the constituency level; Smart Loan Swift Loan This is a constituency based loan targeting individual enterprises belonging to a group. It targets youth intending to start or expand own businesses. Features of the loan: · The group must have paid the C-YES Rausha or C-YES Inua loan Loan Amount Start - up businesses · 1 st loan to a member is Kshs. 25,000 payable in 9 months · 2 nd loan to a member is Kshs. 50 000 payable in 12 months · 3 rd loan to a member is Kshs. 100,000 payable in 18 months · 4 th loan to a member is Kshs. 200,000 payable in 24 months Existing Businesses · 1 st Loan to a member is Kshs. 50,000 payable in 9 months · 2 nd loan to a member is Kshs. 100,000 payable in 12 months · 3 rd loan to a member is Kshs. 150,000 payable in 18 months · 4 th loan to a member is Kshs. 200,000 payable in 24 months The applying individual must: Be a member of and recommended by a group of at least 8 members. A maximum of 80% of the group members shall borrow at any particular time. Funding for the remaining 20% is after the first group has paid installments for the first two months. Youth who have serviced their loans satisfactorily can continue to be financed up to a maximum of Kshs. 100,000 even if they get beyond the statutory age of 34 to allow for transition to borrow from banks. This is a constituency based loan targeting individual enterprises belonging to a group. It targets youth intending to expand own businesses. The group must not have benefited from C-YES to access this loan Loan Amount · 1 st Loan to a member is Kshs. 50,000 payable in 9 months · 2 nd loan to a member is Kshs. 100,000 payable in 12 months · 3 rd loan to a member is Kshs. 150,000 payable in 18 months · 4 th loan to a member is Kshs. 200,000 payable in 24 months Features Grace period of 2 months for the 1st loan No interest, however 8% one off management fee will be charged The applying individual must: Be a member of and recommended by a group of at least 8 members. A maximum of 80% of the group members shall borrow at any particular time. Funding for the remaining 20% is after the first group has paid installments for the first two months. Youth who have serviced their loans satisfactorily can continue to be financed up to a maximum of Kshs. 100,000 even if they get beyond the statutory age of 34 to allow for transition to borrow from banks. The group must undergo a basic training in Business development and entrepreneurship before applying for the loan facilitated by the Fund. 3. Business expansion Loan (VUKA) The Fund recently launched the Vuka loan product that targets youth in existing businesses. The loan is advanced to youth who have existing businesses. Applicants may apply as individuals, partnership or limited companies. This loan also aims at preparing youth for exit to the commercial banking sector. Loan amount Minimum of: Kshs.100, 000/= Maximum of: Kshs. 2,000,000/= Interest • vuka loan attracts an interest of 8% per annum. • a loan application fee of 1% of the loan amount will be charged upon approval of the loan. This will be netted off the loan amount at disbursement. Repayment period The loan term is as follows: • Up to ksh.300,000/= :maximum of 3 years • Up to kshs.1 Million: maximum 5 years • Above kshs.1 million: maximum of 6 years. 4. Sector specific financing In an effort to meet the diverse needs of young people, the Fund has introduced loans for youth keen on doing business in specific sectors of the economy. In this kind of financing, the Fund provides credit to youth interested in doing business in specific sectors of the economy. To enhance their success rate, the Fund has partnered with experienced players in such fields who provide the needed continuous technical support to the youth. Some of the identified sectors include green house farming and poultry business. Agri-Vijana loan product Incubator loan product Targets young people keen on undertaking, green house farming. Applicants may apply as groups or individuals, salaried or in self employment The fund has partnered with Amiran Kenya Ltd who have been engaged to supply the double Amiran Farmers Kits (AFKs). The kits are tailor made to meet the young farmers’ specific needs. This must be supported by documents of ownership and in absence of the documents, a written consent from the owner allowing the group/individual to use the said land for a minimum of 3 years · Access to reliable and constant source of water. · Knowledge or experience in agriculture is an added advantage · Group/individual must be able to raise the 10% of the investment outlay Enables young people acquire egg hatching incubators on credit. Young Kenyans may apply as individuals or in groups, salaried or in self employment. 5. The Credit Guarantee Scheme

TheGovernmentofKenyathroughYouthEnterpriseDevelopmentFundincollaborationwiththeNationalEconomicandSocialCouncilandstakeholdershasdevelopedfinancialsupportprogramstargetingSmallandMediumEnterprisesownedbyyouth.Theprogram’sproductsaredesignedtosupportyouthentrepreneurswhohavegoodbusinessideas/planideasthatrequirefinancing.

Theproductsareaccessibletoyouthwhoarefocused,ofgoodconductandarewillingtoundertaketomanagetheirbusinessunderthementorshipofexperiencedentrepreneurstobeabletorepaytheloan.TheYouthFundisarevolvingFundsetbytheGovernmentofKenyatosupportyouth,achieveitsmandate,awell-managedrevolvingfundthatisabletomeetrequirements of most of the youth is vital.

Someintermediarieshavebeenidentifiedtoprovidefinancialsupporttobusinessesthatrequire financial services beyond the thresholds offered by the Youth Enterprise Development Fund.Theintermediarieshavealsoundertakentoconsiderstartupsandespeciallythosewithinnovativeideasandmeetminimumrequirements.Inthisarrangementstartupsthatcannotaccess collateral will be considered on the basis of credit vetting and compliance. The access and repayment terms are flexible and these include: competitive interest rates and longer time loans amongothers.Loanproductsinclude:

• Workingcapitalfinance• Assetfinancing• Tradeandcommercialbillsincludinginvoices,LPOs/LSOsfinancing,performancebonds,bind

bonds and cheque discounting• Lettersofcredit• Transactionliabilities• Executionofcontracts

InordertoencouragetheFinancialIntermediariestoloantotheYouth,theFundispartneringwithfinancialinstitutionstofacilitateeasyaccesstocreditunderarisksharingarrangement.Thisinitiativeisgearedtowardsunlockingcapitalintheprivatesector.Currently,theFundispartneringwithIndoAfricaFinanceandRafikiDepositTakingMicrofinance.

6. Financial intermediaries

TheFundhaspartneredwithFinancialInstitutionscountrywidetomakeiteasierforyouthtoaccessloans,asindividualsorasgroups.TheFinancialIntermediariesincludebanks,Non-governmentalOrganizations(NGOs),SavingsandCreditCooperatives(SACCOs),andMicroFinanceInstitutions(MFIs).ItisworthytonotethatthepurposeofpartneringwithFIsistocreateservice touch point for the fund and leverage on the existing Fund structures at the regional and constituency level.
