Designed by sustain- able landscaper Phillip Johnson of Phillip Johnson Landscapes, this year’s entry aimed to challenge conventional garden design, whilst incorporating best envi- ronmental practice in an urban environment. Wes Fleming, managing director of Fleming’s Nurseries and the driving force behind the Australian Garden cam- paigns, said the Trailfinders Australian Garden was a showcase of Australia’s enviable natural beauty and Mother Nature’s timeless design, reminding us that nature is the perfect ref- erence for sustainable design, imperative in the twenty first century. “This year’s Trailfinders Australian Garden des- ign is an incredible dis- play of Australian horti- culture and a timely reminder of how we can be more sustainable in our management of our most precious resource - water - in our gardens at home. “Native Australian plants are also used throughout the design. “From lush ferns to bright kangaroo paws and bottle trees, the var- ied environments and weather conditions that make up the Australian landscape are represent- ed by the planting scheme. “Australian horticulture and landscape design are at the cutting edge of the world-wide industry and this Best in Show medal is just icing on the cake. “I am truly privileged to be a part of this new movement where land- scape design and horti- culture is held in such high esteem,” he said. Mr Gary Tomasetti, spokesperson for Water- ford Rise, congratulated Fleming’s on their his- toric win, but said he was not surprised given the quality of work they had undertaken at the estate. “Fleming’s Nurseries’ commitment to driving innovation in their sector of the horticulture indus- try and dedication to strive for the highest quality for their products is really what sets them apart from their competi- tors,” Gary said. “It is also the reason why we chose Fleming’s to transform the street- scape at Waterford Rise and we have been absolutely thrilled with the quality of their work.” “When Waterford Rise hands over responsibility for the upkeep and land- scaping of its streets to the Baw Baw Shire Council, residents will already be enjoying the natural beauty of estab- lished vegetation and the feel of an established community.” Waterford Rise will be home to more than 5000 people when it is com- pleted and will feature extensive wetlands and parkland, as well as a neighbourhood shop- ping centre, with the Waterford Rise Early Learning Centre which is currently under construc- tion and expected to open in October 2013. To date, over 130 blocks have been sold at Waterford Rise and the first residents moved in mid-2012. Land prices start at $128,500 and house and land packages from $286,923. A&A Worm Farm Waste Systems Take the common sense approach to a recycling program for the entire site. Make your waste, including sewage, organ- ic garbage and waste water, work for you. Reduce garbage to landfill by approximately 90%. Installing a Worm Farm Waste System translates into a system which processes all the sewage, waste water and organic garbage your site gener- ates in a very natural, non mechanical way. Let the worms do their job as mother nature designed. Just like on the rainfor- est floor, the worms process all organic mat- ter converting it into worm castings. Normal plumbing fit- tings such as flushing toi- lets etc connect the whole household into the system. This system stands head and shoulders above the rest of the waste treat- ment systems because it has very low energy con- sumption energy costing less than $20 per year for a standard four bedroom home. If your site is hilly, no power will be required. Process all organic garbage including food waste, meat, bones, cit- rus, onions, garlic, weeds and animal waste con- verting it into worm cast- ings. When the waste water from the household is processed in the system it takes the worm cast- ings and worm eggs with it to the sub surface dis- posal area in your gar- den. This worm liquid is a natural liquid fertiliser for your gardens. The worm castings are absorbed into the soil as fertiliser and the worm eggs hatch and live in the disposal area improving the quality of the soil. We live in drought con- ditions including water restrictions. The Worm Farm Waste System re-uses all your waste water and organic garbage as a liquid fer- tiliser. All sewage, waste water and organic garbage gen- erated onsite is re-used onsite 100% in a positive way. Imagine if all house- holds reduced garbage to landfill by 90%. No smell, no service contracts. We will apply to Council on your behalf for a permit to conduct the installation. The installers are trained and accredited and directly employed by this company. We do not use the local plumber to install. One phone number is all you need for the entire process. Commercial applica- tions such as schools, caravan parks, golf clubs, restaurants, food manu- facturing, food prepara- tion and animal waste are a few examples of where this technology may be beneficial.
