Here is a cross reference on how the flexagon symbols are related on the flexagon faces. Each column represents a Zodiac month. Each of these symbol rows can be folded into a unique 12 faced flexagon.

Crease all triangles before and after gluing. Glue the first seven segments in half and then match them together as noted on the plates and glue them into one long strip of triangles. The last piece glues to the end for a total of 36 triangles. Once glued, crease all the lines back and forth again. Trim off any imperfections with sharp scissors. Below are sequences for all four variations of this flexagon. These sequences will allow you to easily paste the last triangles together. Each of the 4 symbols on each of the template triangles is coded so that the 4 variations can be easily folded. Pick one of the 4 symbol sets and use them as a guide for the folding. The main variation has the large images in the center of the triangles. The other three sets of symbols are in the three triangle corners. When you view any triangle such that the large image in the center is oriented vertically, the corner symbol below the center images comprises one variation code, the other two codes are at the upper left corner (red symbols) and upper right corner (blue symbols). All triangles are consistent in the placement of these symbols. In each variation, all twelve faces of that variation’s symbol set can be flexed. As you fold the flexagon, try to adjust the triangles to roll up as smoothly as possible. After the flexagon is folded, flex it carefully to all 12 faces and adjust all face triangles to lye flat and symmetrically. Once this is done, the flexagon will flex smoothly and all the faces will look nice. When flexing, let the triangles follow their natural paths and then let them lie flat. Some faces have a lot of triangles wrapped up on three corners.
Variation 1 – This is the main variation that folds according to the large central images: Fold together in the following order, all three sets of Aries pairs (the Rams), fold together the three sets of Virgo (the Virgin lady), now Leo (the Lion), now Pisces (the Fish) sides 34 and 56, now Capricorn (long curved horns), Aquarius (the water guy), now Gemini, Cancer (crab), Scorpio (pointed tail), and Libra (balance scale). Now glue the back side of Sagitarius #2 (archer), to the back side of Pisces #2.
Variation 2, 3, and 4 – If you came this far, I think you may want to try these yourself. The key is to match one of the other three rows of symbols in the table on page 8. You need to match three of a particular zodiac symbol at a time. For example, fold together all three sets of Aries symbols which are next to one another. Remember that sometimes one of the pairs may be on the ends of the flexagon strip. In order to make it easiest to glue or tape the last triangles together, wait as long as possible to fold the pairs of Pisces and Sagittarius such that one of them is on a final face. If you use a medium sticky tape, it is possible to fold it one way and then try another folding by pulling the taped triangles apart. Folding up this flexagon is one of the best parts about it. Many interesting patterns will appear as you fold it up. Please feel free to email me if you have questions or comments on this flexagon ([email protected]).
