They renovated a portion of space formerly French’s Food Rite and the support from everyone when bring- ing a dream to fruition was overwhelm- ing. People gave out of love and labor, material donations, and in many ways to help. The salon has lockers from the old Laurel Middle School Gym before it was demolished, so pieces of history that have a new purpose live on. There are many items in the salon that are repurposed and it reminds friends and clients of memories but also gives those items new meaning and purpose. This mission of Beauty for Ashes Salon & Spa is: In the business of turning hearts and turning heads. Tracy does not see her business just as a salon but a place where they not only provide haircuts but share gifts with others. There are currently 15 people working on-site with Tracy and they will be soon adding two barbers. Ser- vices include: cuts, color, Brazilian blow- out, hair extensions, pedicures and all aes- thetic services. Tracy loves being behind the chair, not only to bring joy to someone and making them feel better about them- selves, but the connection she has with her clients. She is fortunate to have great re- lationships with the people she works with and that includes two of her daughters working there and a third daughter who takes care of social media and a son help- ing with some business aspects. Each Styl- ist has their own strengths and they learn from each other. They also enjoy teaching their clients how to care for their hair once they create their new look. They have held educational seminars at the salon and invited stylists from the community in ef- forts to support one another. When Tracy begin to renovate the sa- lon, she had the vision to have scripture written on every wall. She called upon friends and family, they prayed and came in during the renovation and wrote in marker what God laid on their hearts on every wall. Beauty for Ashes Salon & Spa has special meaning to Tracy from a scripture in the Bible. “The spirit of the sovereign Lord is upon me. For the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the poor he has sent me to comfort the broken hearted and to proclaim that captives will be released and prisoners will be freed. He has sent me to tell those who mourn that the time of the Lords favor has come and with it the day of Gods anger against their enemies to all who mourn in Israel he will give a crown of beauty for ashes. A joyous blessing instead of mourning festive praise instead of despair. In their righteousness they will be like great oaks that the Lord has planted for his own glory.” This brings meaning to Tracy as she has suffered the loss of her sister and that was a difficult time for her. When the business opened Tracy started a fund to help those who have lost loved ones with funeral expenses and others in devastat- ing situations. Tracy donates $1 of every service she provides to that fund and those working with her are also giving towards this fund to help those in the community. Community involvement is important to Tracy, she hosted Home of Hope Fun- draiser at her salon where haircuts for donations were accepted to support Teen Challenge, she was fortunate to have styl- ists from Salisbury on-site to help with this event in addition to her team.
