Principal’s Report Amanda Williams Welcome BBQ and Meet the Teacher I look forward to welcoming in the new school year with new and current families this afternoon at our welcome BBQ and Meet the Teacher. This community event will be a great opportunity to meet and catch up with other families and to meet your child’s teacher and see their learning space for 2019. If you have some important information that you wish to share with your child’s teacher then we encourage you to make another time for a more private and extensive opportunity to discuss your child. I know that some teachers have already started some conversations with families. Please contact your child’s teacher to arrange a mutually convenient time to meet them if required. The Buildings & Grounds Sub Committee will also be available for a chat in our marquee. They will be available to discuss current progress and any questions regarding the FPS Grounds Master Plan. Thank you to the Parents & Carers Committee for their organisation of the BBQ. All proceeds will go to supporting the Grounds Master Plan. 2019 Classroom Helpers and Parent Information session We are relaunching our Classroom Helpers/Volunteer’s program this year to create an induction session that will offer more extensive training of FPS classroom helpers and volunteers. The skills learned will also be very useful for parents/carers who wish to support their children at home with literacy homework activities and reading. The sessions will be run by our Learning Specialist- Amy Prisco and Assistant Principal- Laura Boylan in the staff room on…The first session will focus on Reading. A second session to be offered next term will focus on Numeracy. We ask that all parent/carer volunteers who will be working in classrooms complete this induction session. The induction session will provide an overview of what helping in the classroom is about, the requirements of helpers, protocols and training focusing on supporting students with literacy skills especially reading. Parent helpers/volunteers who attend excursions or PMP are not required to attend this session. >>>>>Cont. Flemington Primary School, Corner Mt Alexander Road & Flemington St, Flemington 3031 P.O. Happy Learning!

Hi there Flemington Primary School community,

It is with great excitement and enthusiasm that I introduce myself as the new Wellbeing Lead of Flemington Primary School. With over 20 years of experience in education, I firmly believe that wellbeing is an integral component in helping each child achieve their highest potential. I have worked across every year level at our school as a classroom teacher for the past 10 years, and most recently as your Acting Assistant Principal. This year, I move into a role in which I will be providing support and educational leadership across the school, leading the continued implementation of SWPBS, development of tools, resources, strategies and preventative practices to support consistency in Wellbeing. I look forward to meeting you all during the upcoming school year. If you have any questions, please feel free to stop in. By working together, we can make sure every child’s academic, social, and emotional needs are met. Agata Gervasi

Be kind | Be safe | Be respectful | Be ready to learn

PE News Fiona Theman

Swimming Trials/District Swimming:

Congratulations to all of the Grade 3-6 students who tried out for the FPS Swim Team. It was excellent to see so many students in the pool trying their best and supporting each other from the sidelines!! Special thanks to the super teachers who gave up their mornings to help run the trials!

Students who made the team have been notified. These students will now compete in the District Swimming Carnival at Queens Park Pool on Friday 1st March. Karate Clinics:

Students in Grade 1/2 have been lucky enough to experience an Art of Defence Australia clinic in their PE sessions. Foundation classes will be participating in the Karate class over the coming weeks. If your child is interested in attending a free Karate session after school on Thursdays, please see Fiona Themann for a coupon.

Victorian Bowls Clinics

Our Grade 5 students will be learning the art of Lawn Bowls throughout this term. These clinics will run during Friday morning sport sessions and students will have the chance to be selected in the FPS Lawn Bowls team to compete at the Primary Schools Challenge on March 29th. HandsUP! Data FPS have signed up with HandsUp! Bicycle Network to record our form of transport to school. This will help us support more students to become physically active and measure our progress over the year. We hope the information collected can be used to advocate for improved walking and riding in the local community!

Prep PMP: The Perceptual Motor Program (PMP) will be starting on Monday March 4th at 9am for the Prep students. The PMP program includes language, memory, visual, listening, physical and social skills to prepare students for high quality learning. If you are available to assist during PMP please contact one of the Prep teachers.
