SAFETY FIRST• Safety Requirements

– ITER is submitted to Nuclear Licensing process.– For Protection Important Components, the French Nuclear

Regulation must be observed.• Contractors and Subcontractors must comply with :

– Order 7th February 2012 for protection important components (PIC) and protection important activities (PIA).

– Compliance must be demonstrated in the chain of subcontractors.

– All activities are subject to supervision by the Nuclear Operator.

• Quality Assurance (QA)– Contractors shall have an ITER approved QA Program or

ISO 9001 accredited quality system.

Contract Breakdown

• Construction Management– The IO Strategy is to manage the execution of the works with the support of a

Construction Manager-as-Agent contractor to provide industrial support in construction management

• The works contracts are be divided by discipline as follows:– Machine Assembly Works – Mechanical & Piping Works – Electrical, Cabling, Instrumentation & Control Works– Speciality Contracts– Horizontal Support Contracts

• This is to allow a reasonable division of the works amongst qualified industry while minimising interfaces

ITER Organization is seeking a Construction Manager-as-Agent to support IO in the management of the Construction of the ITER Tokamak and Plant.

The Construction Manager-as-Agent Contractor shall not self-perform any works.

– Mechanical Sub-Assembly Works• Sector Sub-sector • Central Solenoid• Thermal Shields

– Tokamak Pit Assembly• Heavy lifts, rigging, mechanical handling, alignment• Customization of supports, shear keys, shims

– Piping, Instrumentation, Cabling– NDE, Ultra-High Vacuum Leak Testing

Scope of works- Tokamak Machine until outermost

vacuum boundary- Special works are excluded where

they require unique skills or significant R&D

Mechanical & Piping Works Contract

• Pre-manufacturing and installation of pipe spools, supports• Supply and installation of metal platforms and structures.• Installation of plant components and equipment

– Including systems requiring high cleanliness and/or accuracy • e.g. gas fuelling lines, microwave transmission lines

• Installation and welding of penetration cover plates • Installation of in-line instrumentation up to the first root /

isolation valve• QC and Installation Tests• Finishing works (e.g. painting, thermal insulation).• Start-Up and Pre-commissioning Activities.

• Supplied Services, Facilities and Utilities

– Lifting and Handling: IO shall set up a support contract to perform lifting and handling operations in shared areas. The interfaces (loading / unloading points) will be agreed between the parties at a later stage.

– Scaffolding: IO will put in place a contract with a company to design (when required), erect and survey scaffolding (not for Machine Assembly).

– Access, Plant Hire: IO shall put at the disposition on site contracts with negotiated prices for access equipment and standard plant hire.
