Ostara isn't the only holiday tograce March's wet and windydays. Although St. Patrick's Dayranges from purely Christian to apub-hopping secular evening,

Celtic pagans can use March 17to honor their ancestors. Even if

you lack so much as a drop of Irishblood, use this day to rememberwhere many pagan traditions

originated.

Eggs are one of the most widespread symbols of Ostara and the day simplywould not be complete without this hard-boiled version where paprika adds

just the right bit of spicy kick to a smooth and creamy filling.

Hot Cross Buns are traditionallyassociated with the Christianholiday of Easter for which the

pastry dough "cross" represents thecrucifixion but these tasty treatsare just as appropriate for Ostara.

Here, the cross instead representsthe Equinox, one of only two daysout of the year when day and

night are exactly equal. Plus, thezest of both a lemon and anorange makes for a sweet-tart

spring treat!

Kitchen MagickBy Tenae S. ~

The Witch of Howling Creek

Although churning your own buttermay seem like a lot of work, there isan easier way to add a magickal

(and tasty!) kick to this kitchen staple.

Butter at its most basic has anurturing, protective energy, due toits source as a dairy product. There

are two main kinds of butteravailable at every grocery storethough: salted and unsalted.

Salted is best on bread and in othercapacities where it is allowed toshine on its own. It also has morepotent cleansing properties than

unsalted, as salt is a strongpurification tool.

Unsalted is best used in baking whereyou want to be able to accuratelycontrol the amount of salt in the dishand is a good blank slate for working

a little kitchen witchery.

Butter is most appreciated for addingflavor to dishes of every variety butyou can make it even more flavorful

all on its own with one of thesedeliciously simple recipes.
