VISIBLE LEARNING As part of the Pacific Palms PS 3 year plan - Strategic Direction 1 – Innovative Learning, we are implementing VISIBLE LEARNING pedagogies. Future focused, rich learning experiences where individual capabilities are recognised and developed allowing our students to flourish.

Successful learners…… Articulate what they are learning Explain the next steps in their learning Set learning goals See errors as opportunities for further learning (YET!) Know what to do when they are stuck Seek feedback

Visible Learning at Home To support our work in school on developing a language of learning, we would encourage you to discuss learning at home too. Here are some ideas of questions you might like to use at home:

Some conversation starters and questions you can ask your child: What did you learn today? How were you successful? How do you know?

We invite you to ask your child about their learning journey. A visible learner talks about what they are learning.

If your child says “they made mistakes”, rather than ask why they made the mistake, here are some useful prompts: Celebrate the mistake by saying, “mistakes are proof you are trying”. What would you do differently next time? What did you learn from the mistake? Could this be a new goal for you? Were you in The Pit today? What is the next step in your learning? Where to from here? What learner quality will help you with this? How can I help you? All learners are in the learning pit sometimes, learning requires effort!

In essence, Visible Learning leads our kids to learn very important lessons; taking responsibility for their own learning and setting goals for their development. Those are the sorts of skills we hope to see in all aspects of life, not just schooling. So it makes sense to use some of the same language at home and to follow the same kinds of ideas. Learning is a continuous journey, and not about reaching some designated destination.

A MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL  Thank you to all the parents and family members that joined us this week at our open day to enjoy our Education Week activities and open classrooms. The students and staff love to see the community sharing in their achievements. I was very proud of the students’ displays, creations and behaviour. The choir and recorder were

superb. Well done Ms Godfree and Mrs Davis. Thank you also to the wonderful staff at Pacific Palms Public School that work as a team to support every student and each other. Congratulations to our Leadership Team, who maturely and capably ran the assembly. I am incredibly proud of the innovative teaching and learning that occurs in our school to ensure that every student can perform to their full potential. We want every child in our school to be known, valued and cared for. Education Week is a wonderful time to celebrate this. Congratulations to all our students this week who represented the school at the Great Lakes Learning Community Academic Excellence Assembly, PSSA Zone Athletics, Project Green Sea Turtle, choir and recorder group! Congratulations. THANK YOU to the Pacific Palms Market Committee who have donated $500 to our school! We will use these funds to support our upcoming school musical production with the purchase of costumes, staging and props. We are very grateful to our supportive community!

Reminder

If your child is late to school after 9am or is picked up early before 3pm, please come via the front office to pick up a blue card. This ensures that your child is recorded in our online system, which helps us with safety and attendance data.

If you or a family member have an urgent/important message for your child/ren, please call the office BEFORE 2:30 pm and we will send the message using our orange note to the child in the class. As this is the busiest time for our front office staff, we ask that you do not use this system to arrange play dates and personal messages please. We thank you for your consideration.

Site Maintenance

Most of our external maintenance projects have now been completed. Roof replacements have taken place for 5/6B, K/1C, KM, 1/2S and the library. Scaffolding, fencing and materials will be removed next week. Thank you for your support and adherence to safety during this time.
