These photos are a part of the First Volume of Four Volumes related to

the Ledo/Stilwell Road and the African American soldiers who worked to

build, drive the road or support the building of the road. These Army per-

sonnel included men and women nurses as the segregated Army had its own

hospital, the 335th Station Hospital. These are photos shown for the first

time which have been collected from archives and private collections. It is

important that we recognized these men and women who ultimately were

mostly the rank and file members of the service upon whose backs the Army

was integrated. It would be their contribution that was invoked at the

Gillem Board.
