Shongwe, in terms of Section 28 (1)(a)(i) and (b) of the National Environmental Management: Protected Areas Act, 2003 (Act No. 57 of 2003) (as amended) of the declaration of the GREATER LAKENVLEI PROTECTED ENVIRONMENT, located in the Emakhazeni Local Municipality on the properties, the boundaries of which are described in Schedule 1 hereto. The purpose for the declaration of the Greater Lakenvlei Protected Environment is as follows: • To enable the owners of the land to take collective action to conserve biodiversity on their land and to seek legal recognition therefor. • To protect the area if the area is sensitive to development due to its biological diversity, natural characteristics, scenic and landscape value and the provision of environmental goods and services. • To ensure that the use of natural resources in the area is sustainable. • To protect a specific ecosystem.
