PIRANHA SOLUTIONS

• extremely energetic and may result in explosion or skin burns if not handled with extreme caution

• traditionally 3:1 H2SO4 and 30% H2O2

• used to remove organic residues from substrates

HANDLING PIRANHA

• Always use glass (preferably Pyrex) containers

• Prepare in a hood; wear rubber gloves and eye protection

• Always add the hydrogen peroxide to the acid

• The mixture is likely to become hot (>100 ºC); handle with care

HANDLING PIRANHA

• Leave the hot solution in an open container until cool

• Mixing hot piranha with organic compounds (such as acetone, isopropyl alcohol and photoresists) might cause an explosion

• Never store piranha solutions, mix fresh solution for each use

• In case of skin contact, flush the skin with copious amounts of water for at least 15 minutes.  Seek medical attention.

• In case of eye contact, flush contaminated eye(s) immediately with copious quantities of water for at least 15 minutes.  Seek medical attention immediately.
