The Swiss financial industry has released recommendations on exchanging of data
between customers and banks based on the ISO 20022 definitions in the payments and
Cash Management areas.
In assignment by PaCoS (Payments Committee Switzerland), a committee set up by the
Swiss Payments Council (SPC), a working group elaborated the Swiss
recommendations for implementation of the format standards for payments initiation
based on the ISO 20022 standard.
The Swiss Recommendations, which are supported by all Swiss financial institutions,
are based upon the basic documentation issued by the ISO and the EPC (European
Payments Council) and are reflected in the two rulebooks, the “Swiss Business Rules”
and the “Swiss Implementation Guidelines”.

The Business Rules for Credit transfers, SEPA Direct debits and Cash Management
describe from a business perspective the business cases with the parties involved and
the messages used (payment types)
It shows the message structures with details of the individual structural elements and
lists the most important validation rule and error handling.

Implementation Guidelines for Credit Transfers cover the entire Swiss payment
traffic and enable the submission of payment orders like those in today's file formats
DTA and EPO (inclusive SEPA).
– “Customer Credit Transfer Initiation” message (pain.001)
– "Customer Payment Status Report" status message (pain.002).
Implementation Guidelines for SEPA direct debits. The EPC specifications form the
basis of the Swiss SEPA direct debit guidelines.
– “Customer Direct Debit Initiation” message (pain.008)
– "Customer Payment Status Report" status message (pain.002).
Implementation Guidelines for Cash Management. The specifications to the bank-to-
customer message report (cash management) cover the electronic statements, the debit
authorizations and credit advices.
– “Bank To Customer Account Report” (camt.052)
– "Bank To Customer Statement” (camt.053)
– “Bank To Customer Debit/Credit Notification” (camt.054).

The validation platform serves to promote the uniform application of the ISO 20022
standard for payments in the Swiss financial center and supports software
providers/corporates and financial institutions in their effort to ensure a high quality
of the technical validation of ISO 20022 messages.
It checks the conformity of generated XML messages in particular with the regulations
in the Swiss Business Rules and Implementation Guidelines.

Lipstick on a Pig?
Section 5
25
"lipstick on a pig" is a rhetorical expression,
used in English to convey the message that
making superficial or cosmetic changes is a
futile attempt to disguise the true nature of a
product.
Source: Wikipedia
To put lipstick on the pig = etwas schönreden
Source: LEO
In diesem Kontext wäre das "Schwein" das
Produkt und der Lippenstift entspräche dem
ISO 20022 Message Format.
Anders gesagt, ist ISO 20022 nur "alter Wein
in neuen Schläuchen"?
Lipstick on a Pig?
Is ISO 20022 just "Lipstick on a Pig"?
26

– Big Bang vs. Phasen => Hohe Komplexität erfordert Phasen
– Freiwillig (incentive) vs. Zwang (Abschaltung alte Versionen)
– Änderung bestehendes Produkt vs. Neues Produkt
– Professionelles Testen ist essentiell => wird oft unterschätzt!
– Migrationsunterstützung / Konversion als Geschäftsmodel?
Support
Hohe Produktkosten vs. hoher Kundenservice
Planungshorizont 1 bis 5 Jahre, je nach Produkt
Abhängigkeiten beachten
– Meldungsabhängigkeiten: Inbound/Outbound, Response, Reject, Transportprotokoll
– Einfluss auf Business Prozesse, Interactions, Datenhaltung (E2E)
– Welche Standards / Standard Versionen / Lokationen sollen unterstützt werden? => Swiss
Recommendation, German Recommendation, etc.
– Für welche Business Area, welche Business Prozesse? => Payments, Securities, Trade
Services, FX, etc.
Pilotphase / Discovery Phase vorsehen
Testing, Migration und Support gebührend berücksichtigen
Begin with the End in Mind
Standard Adoption Roadmap für Produkt ist essentiell
