News from the Principal….
Rushworth Rocks!
It’s not often that we have the chance to witness the Rushworth Shire Hall filled to capacity and
rocking along to local musical talents but that is what we saw on Wednesday evening as a student’s
performed in the annual Rushworth P-12 Variety Concert. Over the past few months students across
the College have been busy rehearsing and improving their performance which were showcased
throughout the evening. This included our Prep/1 students performing three fantastic and very
entertaining items, our guitar groups performing some great hits and a wonderful solo performance
by Kaylee Andrews. Congratulations to all our students who performed on the night, it’s something
you should all be proud of. Thank you to our staff team for their support of the evening and a special
thank you to Jeanette Carr and Krystal Sauvarin for their work in putting the concert together.
Campaspe Cohuna LLEN: VET in Schools Excellence Awards 2011
Wednesday evening was a busy night, not only with the Variety Concert but also the Local Learning
and Employment Network (LLEN) Awards night. This is an evening where students from the local
area are nominated and recognised for their outstanding achievements in Vocational Education
studies. Rushworth P-12 College had a number of students in the running for awards, with Emily
Jones and Lani Gilbert being nominated for the Retail Cosmetics Award and Emily Jones being
nominated for the School Based Apprentice Award. I’m delighted to be able to announce to the
College community that Emily Jones took out the award for Retail Cosmetics, reflecting the high
level of work, training and development that Emily has undertaken during her VET course.
Congratulations to Emily and Lani for their achievements and being fantastic ambassadors and role
models for our College and the great things that are being achieved at Rushworth P-12.
Early Commencement Week
This past week has seen our current Year 11 and Year 10 students stepping up to complete a week of
2012 VCE or VCAL studies as they are introduced to their 2012 subjects, teachers and
expectations. This has been a great opportunity for students to gain an understanding of their
subjects for 2012, including the work requirements, attendance expectations and to commence
establishing some good study habits. As a College we have high expectations for our students in
2012 and see this as a great opportunity to start preparing our senior students for a successful and
productive VCE or VCAL program in 2012. In 2012 we are offering students the opportunity to
study the following VCE or VCAL subjects, in addition to a significant number of VET programs:
English Biology Business Management
Chemistry Design Technology Health & Human Development
History General Maths Further Maths
Math Methods Physical Education Physics
Psychology Studio Art VCAL Literacy
VCAL Numeracy VCAL Work Related Skills VCAL Personal Development

From the AP’S Desk Last night I had the privilege of attending the Campaspe Cohuna LLEN VET Excellence Awards
held at the Moama RSL Club in Echuca. This event celebrates the achievements of the top VET
in Schools students from across the area. Forty students were nominated as finalists in a variety
of categories from a total of 600 students undertaking VET courses and Rushworth was
represented by two of our students, Emily Jones and Lani Gilbert who were both finalists in the
Retail Cosmetics category. Emily received a second finalist nomination in the School Based
Apprenticeship/Trainee category. Well done girls on these nominations. It was very exciting to
see Emily Jones win the Retail Cosmetics category – Congratulations Emily!
The end of the school year for our senior students is fast approaching. Year 11 students have

Teagan and I Were partners together our idea was to make scones, scrambled eggs and a cup of tea. Teagan and I didn’t really know how to make the scones because we didn’t have the recipe so we just made it up, in the end we done it. There were 3 judges we had to present our meals to. The 3 judges were 3 ladies - 2 from Monash University & Mrs Hoelter. In the end Jack H and Jack A took the prize it was a good day. By Janelle Doolan

Honour Board awarded extra funding
Thanks to Cr. Marion Riley we have received recently the amount of $797.50 as funding for the Honour Board display at Rushworth P-12, to come from the Councillor’s Waranga Ward budget. This money will cover the costs of three frames to add to our collection. Once these frames are completed, we will have filled the alcove to capacity, so any future additions will need to be spread, perhaps into the main hall. It was a pleasure to hear that the display has been appreciated at recent reunions and council meetings. The three frames will be for: (Lt) James Clark Roberts. Reproduction Queen’s South Africa Medal with Cape Colony Clasp. Roberts served as a Lieutenant with the 1st Victoria Contingent during the Boer War. Lt. Roberts died of wounds at Rensburg on 13 February 1900 in the same action in which Major George Eddy and Corporal Alex Ross were killed. Roberts is commemorated in Murchison as his family were based there after they moved from Rushworth. There is also a memorial to him in Royal Park (Melbourne). Herbert Alfred Meacham
