Where can I buy a Visitor Oyster card?You can’t buy a Visitor Oyster card once you are in London so it is best to buy your card before you travel to London through your travel agent or by visiting visitorshop.tfl.gov.uk

What happens if I have money left on my card at the end of my visit?The money on your card never expires so keep it until your next visit to London, or pass it on to friends or family. You can also get any money you have left on your card back at Tube stations and selected Travel Information centres.

Helpful hints? Travel in London is divided into zones. Most services operate in Zones 1-6, with the Tube, London Overground and National Rail also operating in Zones 7-9. Central London is Zone 1. See the Tube map opposite

Peak travel hours are Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays) between 06:30 to 09:30 and 16:00 to 19:00. Travel is more expensive during these times

Off-peak hours are at all other times (including all weekend and Bank Holidays) and it is cheaper to travel

Visitor Oyster cards are not valid for travel on the Heathrow Express, Gatwick Express and Stansted Express train services

What is a Visitor Oyster card?A Visitor Oyster card is the cheapest way to pay for single journeys on bus, Tube, tram, DLR, London Overground and most National Rail train services in London.

A Visitor Oyster card is a pay as you go smart card that comes pre-loaded with money for travel around London. The card automatically calculates the best fare for your journey, allowing you to travel around London without having to queue for a ticket. You can travel as many times as you like in a day (from 04:30 and before 04:30 the next day) and if you correctly touch in and out you won’t pay more than the maximum daily price.

How do I use a Visitor Oyster card?In order to calculate your fare for the journey, you need to touch your Visitor Oyster card on the yellow card reader when you start your journey and again when you end your journey on the Tube, DLR, London Overground and National Rail train services.

Where there are no gates, look for free-standing yellow card readers instead.

On buses and trams you only need to touch the reader at the start of your journey.

If you don’t do this, the system will not know which journey you made and you will be charged a maximum fare. You might also get a penalty fare or be prosecuted. So remember to touch in and touch out every time.

What happens if I run out of money on my card? If you run out of money on your Visitor Oyster card, it’s very easy to add more. You can do this at:
