1. Assemblesevenspringtinestothetopoftheframetube.Usea5/16"x1-1/2"hexbolt,two3/8"flatwashersanda5/16"nylocknutforeachspringtine.Placeone3/8"flatwasherontopoftheframetubeandthesecond3/8"flatwasherontopofthespringtine.Seefigure1.

NOTE:Onsweeperssmallerthan42",useonlyfivespringtines.

2. Assembleavinylcapontoeachendoftheframetube.Seefigure1.

3. Assemblea1/2"washer,thewheel,another1/2"washeranda1/2"plainjamnutontothe1/2"x3-1/2"hexbolt.Seefigure2.

4. Inserttheboltthroughtheweldedbracketandassemblea1/2"nylockjamnutontothebolt.Adjustnutssothatthereisnoendplayinthewheelandthentightensecurelyagainsttheweldedbracket.Makesurethewheelstillturnsfreely.Seefigure2.

1. Assembleaconduitclampontoeachendofthesweeperheightadjustmenttubesothatthestraightpartoftheclampisontopofthetube.Seefigure3.

2. Removethehitchbracketsandthebolts,ifpresent,fromtheendsofthesweeper'shitchtubes.SlidethetransporthookontotheL.H.hitchtubeasshowninfigure3.

3. Reassemblethehitchbracketsandboltstothehitchtubes.Refertoyoursweeperowner'smanual.

4. Connectthesweepertothetractor.Setthesweeperheightadjustmenthandletoaboutthemiddleofit'sadjustmentrange.

5. Placethedethatcherinfrontofthesweeperhousing,underneaththehitchtubes.

6. Connectthedethatchertotheconduitclampusingtwo5/16"x1-3/8"clevispins,5/16"washersand3/32"haircotterpins.Seefigure4.

If you have a 30" sweeper, skip steps 7 through 9.7. Makesurethesweeperheightadjustmenthandleisstillsettoaboutthemiddleofit'sadjustmentrange.

8. Centerthedethatcherwiththesweeper.9. Assemblethekeeperbrackets(bendtotheinside)tothesweeper'shitchtube,outsideoftheconduitclamps.Useau-boltandtwo1/4"nylocknutsperbracket.Positionthekeeperbracketsagainstthesidesoftheconduitclamps,approximatelyperpendiculartotheground.Tightenthenylocknutswithoutbendingthekeeperbrackets.Seefigure5.

10. Liftthefrontofthedethatcherandsecureitintransportpositionusingthetransporthook.Seefigure6.

1. Assemblethefourbearingstothetwospacersandthenslideeachthroughaclamp.Seefigure7.

OPERATION

RAISING/LOWERING THE DETHATCHER1. Toraisethedethatcherfortransport,liftuponthefrontofthedethatcherandsecureitwiththetransportorSMARTSweephook.Lowerthedethatcherbyreleasingthehook.

SETTING THE OPERATING POSITION1. Theoperatingheightofthedethatcheriscontrolledbythegaugewheelatthefrontofthedethatcherandisnotadjustable.Thecorrectwheelpositionwasdeterminedinfigure2whenyouassembledthewheel.

2. Setthesweepertothedesiredoperatingheight.(Thebestheightisusuallywiththebrushessetabout1/2"downintothegrass.)Refertoyoursweeperowner'smanualforsweeper.

USING THE DETHATCHERRegularremovalofthatchiscriticaltothemaintenanceofahealthylawn.Thatchislayerofstems,clippings,runners,rootsandleavesthathavenotdecayed.Excessivethatchpreventsair,waterand fertilizer from reaching the roots.The dethatcherwill effectively dislodge excessive thatchfromyourlawn.

1. Startwiththetractorinlowgear.Varytheforwardspeedtodeterminethebestspeedformaximumdethatcherperformance.

2. Useacrisscrosspatterntoachievethemostevenremovalofthatch.

3. Onslopes,alwaysoperateinanupanddowndirectiononly.

4. Avoidextremelysharpturns.5. Avoidtowingthedethatcheracrosssuddensteepdipsinthegroundwhiledethatching.Lossofgroundcontactwiththegaugewheelcouldcausethedethatchertobepulledbackunderneaththesweeper.

MAINTENANCE1. Beforeeachuse,checkallnutsandboltsfortightness.

2. Cleanaftereachusetohelppreventrust.3. Ifrustappearsonthespringtines,sandlightlyandcoatwithenamelpaint.

STORAGE1. Alwaysstoreinadryarea,andcoatexposedmetalwithlightoilwhennotinuse.

4. Fasteneachclamptothespringmountframeassemblyusingone5/16x1-3/8"clevispin,5/16"washer,and3/32"haircotterpin.

5. Securethetwomountbracketstothedrawbaroffsettubeofthesweeperusingtwo3/8"U-bolts,four3/8"lockwashersandfour3/8"hexnuts.Do not tighten yet.

6. Centerdethatcheronfrontofthesweeperhousing.7. Placethedoubletransporthookontothesweeperhitchtube.Liftupthefrontofthedethatcherandslideitintothedoublehookstosecureitinthetransportposition.

8. TightentheU-boltsandnutsassembledinfigure11.
