ANTI-TIP DEVICE

WARNINGTip-Over HazardA child or adult can tip the range and be killed. Verify theanti-tip bracket has been properly installed and engaged.Ensure the anti-tip bracket is re-engaged when the rangeis moved.Do not operate the range without the anti-tip bracket inplace and engaged.Failure to follow these instructions can result in death or se-rious burns to children or adults.

For Freestanding RangesTo check if the bracket is installed and engagedproperly, look underneath the range to see thatthe anti-tip arm attached to the side panel is en-gaged in the bracket. On some models, the stor-age drawer or kick panel can be removed foreasier inspection. If visual inspection is not pos-sible, slide the range forward, confirm the anti-tipbracket is securely attached to the floor or wall,and slide the range back so the antitip arm slidesjust under the anti-tip bracket. If the range ispulled from the wall for any reason, always repeatthis procedure to verify the range is properly se-cured by the anti-tip bracket.

To reduce the risk of tipping the range, the rangemust be secured by a properly installed anti-tipbracket. See installation instructions shipped withthe bracket for complete details before attempt-ing to install.Anti-Tip

• Never wear loose-fitting or hanging gar-ments while using the appliance. Be carefulwhen reaching for items stored over therange. Flammable material could be ig-nited if brought in contact with hot surfaceunits or heating elements and may causesevere burns.

• Use only dry pot holders-moist or damp potholders on hot surfaces may result in burnsfrom steam. Do not let pot holders touchhot surface units or heating elements. Donot use a towel or other bulky cloth.

• For your safety never use your appliancefor warming or heating the room.

• Do not let cooking grease or other flam-mable materials accumulate in or near therange.

• Do not use water on grease fires. Neverpick up a flaming pan. Turn the controls off.Smother a flaming pan on a surface unit bycovering the pan completely with a well fit-ting lid, cookie sheet or flat tray. Use a mul-tipurpose dry chemical or foam-type fireextinguisher.

COOK MEAT AND POULTRY THOROUGHLY...Cook meat and poultry thoroughly—meat to at least an INTERNAL temperature of 160° Fand poultry to at least an INTERNAL temperature of 180°F. Cooking to these temperaturesusually protects against foodborne illness.

WARNINGSAFETY PRECAUTIONS

Flaming grease outside a pan can be putout by covering it with baking soda or, ifavailable, by using a multipurpose drychemical or foam type fire extinguisher.Flame in the oven can be smothered com-pletely by closing the door and turning theoven off or by using a multipurpose drychemical or foam type fire extinguisher.

• Do not touch the surface units, the heatingelements or the interior surface of the oven.These surfaces may be hot enough to burneven though they are dark in color. Duringand after use, do not touch or let clothingor other flammable materials contact thesurface units, areas nearby the surface unitsor any interior area of the oven; allow suffi-cient time for cooling first.

Potentially hot surfaces include the cook-top, areas facing the cooktop, oven ventopening, surfaces near the opening, crev-ices around the oven door and metal trimparts above the door.

REMEMBER: The inside surface of the ovenmay be hot when the door is opened.

• Do not store or use combustible materials,gasoline or other flammable vapors andliquids in the vicinity of this or any other ap-pliance.

• Keep the hood and grease filters clean tomaintain good venting and to avoidgrease fires.

• Never block the vents (air openings) of therange. They provide the air inlet and outletthat are necessary for the range to oper-ate properly with correct combustion. Airopenings are located at the rear of thecooktop, at the top and bottom of theoven door, and at the bottom of the rangeunder the storage drawer.

• Stand away from the range when openingthe oven door. Hot air or steam which es-capes can cause burns to hands, faceand/or eyes.

• Do not heat unopened food containers.Pressure could build up and the containercould burst, causing an injury. Keep theoven vent unobstructed.

• Keep the oven free from grease buildup.

• Place the oven shelf in the desired positionwhile the oven is cool. If shelves must behandled when hot, do not let pot holdercontact the heating elements.

• Pulling out the shelf to the stop-lock is aconvenience in lifting heavy foods. It is alsoa precaution against burns from touchinghot surfaces of the door or oven walls.

• When using cooking or roasting bags in theoven, follow the manufacturer’s directions.

• Do not use the oven to dry newspapers. Ifoverheated, they can catch on fire.

• Do not use the oven for a storage area.Items stored in an oven can ignite.

• Do not leave paper products, cookingutensils or food in the oven when not in use.

OVEN

SURFACE UNITS-ALL MODELS

• Never leave the surface units unattendedat high heat settings. Boilovers cause smok-ing and greasy spillovers that may catchon fire.

• Only certain types of glass, glass/ceramic,earthenware or other glazed containersare suitable for cooktop service, othersmay break because of the sudden changein temperature.

• To minimize the possibility of burns, ignitionof flammable materials and spillage, thehandle of a container should be turned to-ward the center of the range without ex-tending over nearby surface units.

• Always turn the surface units off before re-moving cookware.

• Do not flame foods on the cooktop. If youdo flame foods under the hood, turn thefan on.

• Keep an eye on foods being fried at highor medium high heat settings.

Use proper pan size-select cookware having flat bottoms large enough to cover the surfaceunit heating element. The use of undersized cookware will expose a portion of the surfaceunit to direct contact and may result in ignition of clothing. Proper relationship of cookwareto surface unit will also improve efficiency.

• Foods for frying should be as dry as pos-sible. Frost on frozen foods or moisture onfresh foods can cause hot fat to bubble upand over the side of the pan.

• Use little fat for effective shallow or deepfat frying. Filling the pan too full of fat cancause spillovers when food is added.

• If a combination of oils or fats will be usedin frying, stir together before heating, asfats melt slowly.

• Always heat fat slowly, and watch as itheats.

• Use a deep fat thermometer wheneverpossible to prevent overheating fat beyondthe smoking point.

• Avoid scratching the glass cooktop. The cook-top can be scratched with items such as sharpinstruments, rings or other jewelry and rivets onclothing.

• Large scratches or impacts to glass doors orcooktops can lead to broken or shattered glass.

• Do not operate the radiant surface units if theglass is broken. Spillovers or cleaning solutionmay penetrate a broken cooktop and create arisk of electrical shock. Contact a qualifiedtechnician immediately should your glass cook-top become broken.

• Never use glass cooktop surface as a cuttingboard.

• Do not place or store items that can melt orcatch fire on the glass cooktop, even when it isnot being used.

WARNING!RADIANT SURFACE UNITS (on some models)

Use care when touching the cooktop. The glass surface of the cooktop will retain heat after the con-trols have been turned off.

• Be careful when placing spoons or other stirringutensils on the glass cooktop surface when it isin use. They may become hot and could causeburns.

• Clean the cooktop with caution. If a wetsponge or cloth is used to wipe spills on a hotsurface unit, be careful to avoid steam burns.Some cleaners can produce noxious fumes ifapplied to a hot surface.

NOTE: We recommend that you avoid wipingany surface unit areas until they have cooledand the indicator light has gone off. Sugar spillsare the exception to this. Please see Cleaningthe glass cooktop section.

• When the cooktop is cool, use only the recom-mended cleaning cream to clean the cooktop.

• To avoid possible damage to the cooking sur-face, do not apply cleaning cream to the glasssurface when it is hot.

• After cleaning, use a dry cloth or paper towel toremove all cleaning cream residue.

• Read and follow all instructions and warnings onthe cleaning cream labels.

• Do not lift the cooktop. Lifting the cooktop canlead to damage and improper operation of therange.

• Clean the cooktop with caution. If a wetsponge is used to wipe spills on a hot cooktop,be careful to avoid steam burns.

• To avoid the possibility of a burn or electricshock, always be certain that the controls for allsurface units are at the OFF position and all coilsare cool before attempting to lift or remove aunit.

How to Set the Controls

Surface Cooking ControlsYour surface units and controls are de-signed to give you a variety of heat set-tings for surface unit cooking.At both LO and HI positions, there is a slightnotch so control clicks at those positions;HI marks the highest setting; LO, the lowestsetting.

In a quiet kitchen, you may hear slightclicking sounds during cooking, indicatingheat settings selected are being main-tained.Switching heats to higher settings alwaysshows a quicker change in temperaturethan switching to lower settings.

1. Push the control knob in.2. Turn either clockwise or counterclock-

wise to desired heat setting.Control must be pushed in to set only fromthe OFF position.

When control is in any position other thanOFF, you can turn it without pushing in.Be sure you turn control to OFF when youfinish cooking. An indicator light will glowwhen ANY surface unit is on.A Burner On indicator light will glow whenANY surface unit is on.

Heat Setting GuideMAX - Quick start for cooking; bring waterto boil.MEDIUM HIGH - Fast fry, pan broil; maintainfast boil on large amount of food.MED - Sauce and brown; maintain slowboil on large amount of food.MEDIUM LOW - Cereal; maintain servingtemperature of most foods.MIN - Cook after starting at HI; cook withlittle water in covered pan. Use to steamrice.

NOTES:1. At MAX or MEDIUM HIGH, never leave

2. At MIN, melt chocolate, butter on smallunit.

Cooking TipsUse medium- or heavyweight cookware.Aluminum cookware conducts heat fasterthan other metals. Cast-iron and coatedcast-iron cookware is slow to absorb heat,but generally cooks evenly at low or me-dium heat settings. Steel pans may cookunevenly if not combined with other met-als.Do not overfill cookware with fat that mayspill over when adding food. Frosty foodsbubble vigorously. Watch foods frying athigh temperatures. Keep range and hoodclean from accumulated grease.

To conserve the most cooking energy,pans should be flat on the bottom, havestraight sides and tight-fitting lids. Matchthe size of the saucepan to the size of thesurface unit. A pan that extends more thanan inch beyond the edge of the drip pantraps heat, which causes "crazing" (finehairline cracks) on porcelain, and discol-oration ranging from blue to dark gray onchrome drip pans.

Using the radiant surface units. (on some models)

The radiant cooktop features heating unitsbeneath a smooth glass surface.NOTE: A slight odor is normal when a newcooktop is used for the first time. It iscaused by the heating of new parts andinsulating materials and will disappear in ashort time.The surface unit will cycle on and off tomaintain your selected control setting.It is safe to place hot cookware from theoven or surface on the glass surface whenthe surface is cool.Even after the surface units are turned off,the glass cooktop retains enough heat tocontinue cooking. To avoid overcooking,remove pans from the surface units whenthe food is cooked. Avoid placing any-thing on the surface unit until it has cooledcompletely.Do not slide cookware across the cooktopbecause it can scratch the glass - theglass is scratch resistant, not scratch proof.

About the radiant surface units...

Every radiant surface unit has a tempera-ture limiter. The temperature limiter pro-tects the glass cooktop from getting toohot.The temperature limiter may cycle theunits off for a time if:

Always place the pan in thecenter of the surface unit youare cooking on.

Never cook directly on theglass. Always use cookware.

• The pan boils dry.• The pan bottom is not flat.• The pan is off center.• There is no pan on the unit.

Temperature Limiter

• Water stains (mineral deposits) are re-movable using the cleaning cream orfull-strength white vinegar.

• Use of window cleaner may leave an iri-descent film on the cooktop. The clean-ing cream will remove this discoloration.

• Do not store heavy items above thecooktop. If they drop onto the cooktop,they can cause damage.

• Do not use the surface as a cuttingboard.

Indicator Lights (on radiant glass modelsonly).A Hot indicator light will glow when any radiant el-ement is turned on, and will remain on until thesurface is cool enough to touch.A Burner On indicator light will glow when any sur-face unit is on.NOTE: The Hot indicator light may glow betweenthe surface control settings of Min and OFF, butthere is no power to the surface units.

Stainless Steel:recommended

Selecting types of cookware.The following information will help you choose cookware that will give good performance on glass cooktops.

Check for flat bottoms by us-ing a straight edge.

Pans with rounded, curved,ridged or warped bottoms arenot recommended.

Wok CookingWe recommend that you use only a flat-bottomed wok.They are available at your local retail store.Do not use woks that have support rings.Use of these types of woks, with or withoutthe ring in place, can be dangerous.

Placing the ring over the surface unit willcause a buildup of heat that will damagethe porcelain cooktop. Do not try to usesuch woks without the ring. You could beseriously burned if the wok tips over.

Use medium- or heavy-weight cookware.Aluminum cookware conducts heat fasterthan other metals. Cast-iron and coatedcast-iron cookware are slow to absorbheat, but generally cook evenly at low tomedium heat settings. Steel pans maycook unevenly if not combined with othermetals.

Surface Cookware TipsFor best cooking results, pans should beflat on the bottom. Match the size of thesaucepan to the size of the surface unit.The pan should not extend over the edgeof the surface unit than 1 inch.

Use only flat-bottomedwoks

The following information will help you choose cookware which will give food performance on coil cooktops.

Home Canning Tips:Be sure the canner is centered over thesurface unit.Make sure the canner is flat on the bot-tom.Use recipes and procedures from repu-table sources. These are available frommanufacturers such as Ball® and Kerr®and the Department of Agriculture Exten-sion Service.To prevent burns from steam or heat, usecaution when canning.

Stoneware:usable, but not recommendedPoor performance. May scratch the sur-face.

Glass-ceramic:usable, but not recommendedPoor performance. May scratch the sur-face.

Porcelain Enamel Covered Cast Iron:recommendedAs long as the cookware is covered com-pletely with porcelain enamel, this cook-ware is recommended. Caution is recom-mended for cast-iron cookware that is notcompletely covered with smooth porce-lain enamel, as it may scratch the glass-ceramic cooktop.

Copper Bottom:recommendedCopper may leave residues which can ap-pear as scratches. The residues can be re-moved, as long as the cooktop is cleanedimmediately. However, do not let thesepots boil dry. Overheated metal can bondto glass cooktops. An overheated copperbottom pot will leave a residue that willpermanently stain the cooktop if not re-moved immediately.

Aluminum:heavy weight recommended.Good conductivity. Aluminum residuessometimes appear as scratches on thecooktop, but can be removed if cleanedimmediately. Because of its low meltingpoint, thin-weight aluminum should not beused.

Before you begin...To avoid possible burns, place the shelvesin the desired position before you turn theoven on.The shelves have stop-locks, so that whenplaced correctly on the shelf supports (Athrough D), they will stop before comingcompletely out, and will not tilt.When placing and removing cookware,pull the shelf out to the bump on the shelfsupport.

To remove a shelf, pull it toward you, tiltthe front end up and pull it out.To replace, place the end of the shelf(stop-locks) on the support, tilt up the frontand push the shelf in.NOTE: The shelf is not designed to slide outat the special low shelf (R) position.

Oven Temperature Knob (on some models)

Oven shelf positionsThe oven has four shelf supports—A (bot-tom), B, C and D (top).

The oven has 4 shelf posi-tions.

Turn this knob to the setting you want.The oven cycling light glows until the ovenreaches your selected temperature, thengoes off and on with the oven element(s)during cooking.

Preheating and Pan PlacementPreheat the oven if the recipe calls for it.To preheat, set the oven at the correcttemperature. Preheating is necessary forgood results when baking cakes, cookies,pastry and breads.For ovens without a preheat indicator lightor tone, preheat 10 minutes.

Baking results will be better if baking pansare centered in the oven as much as pos-sible. Pan should not touch each other orthe walls of the oven. If you need to usetwo shelves, stagger the pans so one is notdirectly above the other, and leave ap-proximately 1 ½" between pans, from thefront, back and sides of the wall.

Aluminum FoilDo not use aluminum foil on the bottom ofthe oven.Never entirely cover a shelf with aluminumfoil. This will disturb the heat circulationand result in poor baking.A smaller sheet of foil may be used tocatch a spillover by placing it on a lowershelf several inches below the food.

The type of margarine will affect baking performance!

Adjust the oven thermostat – Easy to do yourself!You may find that your new oven cooks differently that the one it replaced. Use your new oven for a few weeks to be-come more familiar with it. If you still think your new oven is too hot or too cold, you can adjust the thermostat yourself.Do not use thermometers, such as those found in grocery stores, to check the temperature setting of your oven. Thesethermometers may vary 20-40°F.NOTE: This adjustment will not affect the broiling or the self-cleaning temperatures (on some models). The adjustmentwill be retained in memory after a power failure.

To Adjust the Thermostat with this Type of Knob1. Pull the Oven Temp knob off the shaft,

look at the back of the knob and notethe current setting before making anyadjustments.

2. Loosen both screws on the back of theknob.

3. To increase the oven temperature,move the pointer toward the words"MAKE HOTTER."To decrease the oven temperature, turnthe pointer toward the words "MAKECOOLER."

Most recipes for baking have been devel-oped using high fat products such as but-ter or margarine (80% fat), If you decreasethe fat, the recipe may not give the sameresults as with a higher fat product.Recipe failure can result if cakes, pies,pastries, cookies or candies are made withlow fat spreads. The lower the fat contentof a spread product, the more noticeablethese differences become.

Federal standards require products la-beled "margarine" to contain at least 80%fat by weight. Low-fat spreads, on theother hand, contain less fat and more wa-ter. The high moisture content of thesespreads affects the texture and flavor ofbaked goods. For best results with your oldfavorite recipes, use margarine, butter orstick spreads containing at least 70% veg-etable oil.

Each notch changes the temperatureby 10°F.

Using the self-cleaning oven.The oven door must be closed and all controls must be set correctly for the cycle to work prop-erly.

Before a Clean Cycle

Wipe up heavy soil on theoven bottom (appearancemay vary).

(on some models)

The oven must be cool in order to set theself-clean cycle.We recommend venting your kitchen withan open window or using a ventilation fanor hood during the first self-clean cycle.Remove broiler pan, broiler grid, all cook-ware and any aluminum foil from theoven.The shiny, silver-colored oven shelves (onsome models) can be self-cleaned, butthey will darken, lose their luster and be-come hard to slide.

Rinse well with a vin-egar and water solution.Do not rub or clean the door gasket-ithas an extremely low resistance toabrasion.If you notice the gasket becomingworn, frayed or damaged in any way,or if it has become displaced on thedoor, you should have it replaced.

Lift-up Cooktop (only coil models)Clean the area under the cooktop often.Builtup soil, especially grease, may catchon fire.To make cleaning easier, the cooktopmay be lifted up and propped open.Be sure all surface units are turned off be-fore raising the cooktop.Remove the front surface and drip pans.See the Surface Units and Drip Pans sec-tion. Grasp the two front surface unit wells

and lift the cooktop up and prop it openwith the prop rod provided.After cleaning underneath the cooktopwith hot, soapy water and a clean cloth,hold the cooktop up, return the prop rodto its storage position and lower the cook-top until it snaps into position. Be carefulnot to pinch your fingers. Replace the twofront drip pans and surface units. See theSurface Units and Drip Pans section.

Lift-Off Oven DoorThe oven door is removable, but it isheavy. You may need help removing andreplacing the door.To remove the door:1. Open the door to the full open position.2. Pull the hinge locks up over the hinge

hooks on both sides.3. Grasp the door firmly on each side, lift

slightly and pull it straight out and awayfrom the oven.

To replace the door:1. Firmly grasp both sides of the door at the

top.2. Insert and seat the upper and lower

hinge arms into the oven slots.3. Push the hinge locks down from the

hinge hooks.4. Close the oven door and make sure it is

working properly. If it is not working prop-erly, remove and replace it following theabove steps. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CLOSETHE DOOR UNTIL THIS STEP IS COMPLETE.THE HINGE OR DOOR COULD BE DAM-AGED.

Broiler Pan and Grid

Care and cleaning of the range.Oven Heating ElementsDo not clean the bake element or thebroil element. Any soil will burn off whenthe elements are heated.The bake elements can be lifted gently toclean the oven floor. Do not attempt toclean any oven surface when any burnerelement is on. Always wear protectivehand-wear when cleaning interior ovensurfaces or surfaces near heating ele-

ments. If spillovers, residue or ash accumu-late around the bake element, gently wipearound the element with warm water.

After broiling, remove the broiler pan fromthe oven. Remove the grid from the pan.Carefully pour out grease from the paninto a proper container. Wash and rinsethe broiler pan and grid in hot water witha soap-filled or plastic scouring pad.

If food has burned on, sprinkle the grid withdetergent while hot and cover with wetpaper towels or a dishcloth. Soaking thepan will remove burned on foods.Do not store a soiled broiler pan and gridanywhere in the range.Both the broiler pan and

grid can also be cleaned inthe dishwasher.

Control Panel and Knobs

Pull the knobs straight offthe stem.

It is a good idea to wipe the control panelafter each use of the oven. Use a dampcloth to clean or rinse. For cleaning, usemild soap and water or a 50/50 solution ofvinegar and water. For rinsing, use cleanwater. Polish dry with a soft cloth.Do not use abrasive cleaners, strong liquidcleaners, plastic scouring pads or ovencleaners on the control panel; they willdamage the finish.

The control knobs may be removed foreasier cleaning.Make sure the knobs are in the OFF posi-tions and pull them straight off the stemsfor cleaning.The knobs can be cleaned in a dishwasheror they may also be washed with soapand water. Make sure the insides of theknobs are dry before replacing.Replace the knobs in the OFF position toensure proper placement.

Oven ShelvesClean the oven shelves with an abrasivecleanser or scouring pad. After cleaning,rinse the shelves with clean water and drywith a clean cloth.NOTE: Take the shelves out of the oven be-fore you begin the self-clean cycle or theymay discolor.

To make the shelves slide more easily, ap-ply a small amount of vegetable oil orcooking oil to a paper towel and wipe theedges of the oven shelves with the papertowel.

2. Replace bulb with a 40-watt householdappliance bulb.

To replace the cover:1. Place it into groove of the light recep-

tacle. Pull wire forward to the center ofthe cover until it snaps into place.

2. Connect electrical power to the range.

Clean under the range

Surface Units (on some models)Be sure all the controls are turned to OFFand the surface units are cool before at-tempting to remove them.To clean the surface units, turn the controlto the highest setting for a minute. Thecoils will burn off any soil.To remove a surface unit:To remove the drip pans for cleaning, thesurface units must be removed first.Lift the surface unit about 1 inch abovethe drip pan and pull it out.Do not lift the surface unit more than 1”. Ifyou do, it may not lie flat on the drip panwhen you plug it back in.Repeated lifting of the surface unit morethan 1 inch above the drip pan can per-manently damage the receptacle.

To replace a surface unit:Replace the drip pan into the recess in thecooktop. Make sure the opening in thepan lines up with the receptacle.Insert the terminals of the surface unitthrough the opening in the drip pan andinto the receptacle.Guide the surface unit into place so it restsevenly.

Do not immerse the surface units in liq-uids of any kind.Do not clean the surface units in a dish-washer.Do not bend the surface unit plug ter-minals.Do not attempt to clean, adjust or inany way repair the plug-in receptacle.

Do not use steel-wool pads, commercialoven cleaners, cleaning powders or otherabrasive cleaners. They will damage thesurface.

Oven VentOn glass cooktop models, the oven isvented through an opening at the rear ofthe cooktop.On coil cooktop models, the oven isvented through an opening under theright rear surface unit.

Normal Daily Use Cleaning

Burned-On Residue

Heavy Burned-On Residue

Note: Do not use a dull ornicked blade.

ONLY use Ceramic Cooktop Cleaner onthe glass cooktop. Other types of cleanersmay not be as effective.To maintain and protect the surface ofyour glass cooktop, follow these steps.1. Before using the cooktop for the first

time, clean it with Ceramic CooktopCleaner. This helps protect the top andmakes cleanup easier.

2. Daily use of Ceramic Cooktop Cleanerwill help keep the cooktop lookingnew.

3. Shake the cleaning cream well. Applya few drops of Ceramic CooktopCleaner directly to the cooktop.

4. Use a paper towel for Ceramic Cook-tops to clean the entire cooktop sur-face.

5. Use a dry cloth or paper towel to re-move all cleaning residue. No need torinse.

NOTE: It is very important that you DO NOTheat the cooktop until it has beencleaned thoroughly.

1. Allow the cooktop to cool.2. Spread a few drops of Ceramic Cook-

top Cleaner on the entire burned resi-due area.

3. Using the included Cleaning Pad for Ce-ramic Cooktops, rub the residue area,applying pressure as needed.

4. If any residue remains, repeat the stepslisted above as needed.

5. For additional protection, after all resi-due has been removed, polish the en-tire surface with Ceramic CooktopCleaner and paper towel.

Use a Cleaning Pad for Ce-ramic Cooktops.

1. Allow the cooktop to cool.2. Use a single-edge razor blade scraper

at approximately a 45º angle againstthe glass surface and scrape the soil. Itwill be necessary to apply pressure tothe razor scraper in order to remove theresidue.

3. After scraping with the razor scraper,spread a few drops of Ceramic Cook-top Cleaner on the entire burned resi-due area. Use the Cleaning Pad to re-move any remaining residue.

4. For additional protection, after all resi-due has been removed, polish the en-tire surface with Ceramic CooktopCleaner and a paper towel.

To clean the cooktop seal around theedges of the glass, lay a wet cloth on it fora few minutes, then wipe clean with non-abrasive cleaners.

1. Turn off all surface units. Remove hotpans.

2. Wearing an oven mitt:a. Use a single-edge razor blade

scraper to move the spill to a coolarea on the cooktop.

b. Remove the spill with paper towels.3. Any remaining spillover should be left

until the surface of the cooktop hascooled.

4. Do not use the surface units again untilall of the residue has been completelyremoved.

NOTE: If pitting or indentation in the glasssurface has already occurred, the cook-top glass will have to be replaced. In thiscase, service will be necessary.

If there are no local codes, your range must bewired and fused to meet the requirements of the Cana-dian Electrical Code, Part 1 Latest Edition.

This appliance must be supplied with the proper volt-age and frequency, and connected to an individualproperly grounded branch circuit, protected by a cir-cuit breaker or fuse having an amperage as specifiedon the rating plate. Effective January 1, 1996, the National Electrical Coderequires that new construction (not existing) utilize a 4-conductor connection to an electric range.

When installing an electric range in new construction,follow Steps 3 and 5 for 4-wire connection.

You must use a 3-wire, single-phase A.C. 208Y/120 Voltor 240/120 Volt, 60 hertz electrical system. If you con-nect to aluminum wiring, properly installed connectorsapproved for use with aluminum wiring must be used.

If the electrical service provided does not meet theabove specifications, have a licensed electrician installan approved outlet.

NOTE: Use of automatic, wireless, or wired externalswitches that shut off power to the appliance, are notrecommended for this product.

ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS

Use only a 3-conductor or a 4-conductor UL-listedrange cord. These cords may be provided with ring ter-minals on wire and a strain relief device.

A range cord rated at 40 amps with 125/250 minimumvolt range is required. A 50 amp range cord is not rec-ommended but if used, it should be marked for usewith nominal 13/8" diameter connection openings.Care should be taken to center the cable and strain re-lief within the knockout hole to keep the edge fromdamaging the cable.

• Because range terminals are not accessible afterrange is in position, flexible service conduit or cordmust be used.

NOTE: If conduit is being used, go to Step 3D and thento Step 6 or 7.

• On some models, a filter capacitor may be con-nected between the black and white leads on thejunction block.

Remove the knockout ring (1 1/8" or 1 3/8" dependingon your model) located on bracket directly belowthe terminal block. To remove the knockout, use apair of pliers to bend the knock-out ring away fromthe bracket and twist until ring is removed.

D For conduit installations only, purchase a squeezeconnector matching the diameter of your conduitand assemble it in the hole. Insert the conduit throughthe squeeze connector and tighten. Allow enoughslack to easily attach the wires to the terminal block.NOTE: Do not install the conduit without a squeezeconnector. For power cord installations only (see the next step ifusing conduit), assemble the strain relief in the hole.Insert the power cord through the strain relief andtighten. Proceed to Step 8.

To reduce the risk of tipping the range, the range mustbe secured by a properly installed anti-tip bracket. Seeinstallation instructions shipped with the bracket forcomplete details before attempting to install.To check if the bracket is installed and engaged prop-erly, look underneath the range to see that the anti-tiparm attached to the side panel is engaged in thebracket. On some models, the storage drawer or kickpanel can be removed for easier inspection. If visual in-spection is not possible, slide the range forward, con-firm the anti-tip bracket is securely attached to the flooror wall, and slide the range back so the anti-tip armslides just under the anti-tip bracket. If the range ispulled from the wall for any reason, always repeat thisprocedure to verify the range is properly secured bythe anti-tip bracket.

• Check to be sure that all packing materials andtape have been removed. This will include tapeon metal panel under control knobs (if appli-cable), adhesive tape, wire ties, cardboard andprotective plastic. Failure to remove these materi-als could result in damage to the appliance oncethe appliance has been turned on and surfaceshave heated.

• Check to make sure that the rear leveling leg isfully inserted into the Anti-Tip bracket and that thebracket is securely installed.

OPERATION CHECKLIST12• Turn on one of the surface units to observe that

the element glows within 60 seconds. Turn the unitoff when glow is detected. If the glow is not de-tected within the time limit, recheck the rangewiring connections. If change is required, retestagain. If no change is required, have building wir-ing checked for proper connections and voltage.

• Check to make sure the Clock (on models soequipped) display is energized. If a series of hori-zontal red lines appears in the display, disconnectpower immediately. Recheck the range wiringconnections. IF change is made to connections,retest again. If no change is required, have build-ing wiring checked for proper connections andvoltage. It is recommended that the clock bechanged if the red lines appear.

• Be sure all range controls are in the OFF positionbefore leaving the range.

Power outage Power outage or surge. • Some models will automatically resume their settingonce the power is restored. On models with a clock,you must reset the clock. If the oven was in use, youmust reset it by pressing the OFF pad, setting the clockand resetting any cooking function.

"F-and number or let-ter" flash in the display

You have a function error code. • Press the OFF pad. Put the oven back into operation.

If the function code repeats: • Disconnect all power to the range for at least 30 sec-onds and then reconnect power. If the function errorcode repeats, call for service.

• On self-cleaning models, if a function error code ap-pears during the self-cleaning cycle, check the ovendoor latch. The latch may have been moved, if onlyslightly, from the locked position. Make sure the latch ismoved to the right as far as it will go. Press the OFFpad. Allow the oven to cool for one hour. Put the ovenback into operation.

Oven makes clickingnoise

This is the sound of the heatingelement turning off and on dur-ing cooking functions.

Oven door is crooked The door is out of position. • Because the oven door is removable, it sometimesgets out of position during installation. To straighten thedoor, push down on the high corner.

GENERAL PARTS AND LABOR WARRANTYSummit warrants, to the original purchaser of every new unit, that the cabinet and all parts thereof be freefrom defects in material or workmanship, under normal and proper use and maintenance service asspecified by Summit and upon proper installation and start-up in accordance with the instruction packetsupplied with each Summit unit. Summit’s obligation under this warranty is limited to a period of 12 monthsfrom the date of original purchase.

Any parts, covered under this warranty, that are determined by Summit to have been defective, within theabove said period, are limited to the repair or replacement, including labor charges, of defective parts orassemblies.
