2012 Olympic Games• OTP involved as performance partner with all medal sports • Bronze in women’s soccer was first medal in summer team

sports since 1936 • Team sport strategy contributed to solid performance for

women’s basketball• Finished 13th – 2 medals out of being tied for 11th• Target of top 12 in total medals was very attainable• Won medals in more sports (11) than we have since 2000• No significant increase in number of top 8 finishes• Quality technical leadership is key to podium success• Huge financial investments being made by competing

nations

Paralympic Games• Canada took a noticeable step back relative to other

leading nations• Good performance from swimming, men’s wheelchair

basketball and wheelchair rugby• Focus on increasing depth of 3 big sports – swimming,

athletics and cycling. A more deliberate recruitment and talent id strategy is required for these 3 sports. Collaborative approach is needed.

• Thorough assessment required regarding future strategy.• Given competitive landscape, going forward will consider a

gold medal performance target and total medal target for Canada.

• Investment in Category 3 sports is limited to 2 year commitment to HP program and 4 year commitment to coaching and technical leadership. Funding for HP program is narrowed if no potential for podium results.
