Temple Men’s Basketball 2012-2013 SeasonI grew up as sports fan, especially crazy about basketball.
People might think the reason why there are so many basketball fans in China is all because of Yao Ming. But for me, it is not. In my city Ningbo, there is a pretty good basketball team. It wins eight championships, and six of them are in straight.
I started to watch my home team since 1999 and my favorite player is another Chinese called Wang Zhizhi, who was the first Asian player in NBA. Yao Ming never beat him when both of them played in CBA, Chinese Basketball Association.
I took so many photos of Temple Men’s Basketball games during the season of 2012-2013. Firstly, I enjoyed taking photos for basketball. And secondly, I need more games to gather experience. That’s why I kept the Temple News press pass during winter break and visited
Liacouras Center for most games. Khalif Wyatt, wearing the #1 jersey in basketball team, is the best player in Owls. Wyatt was awarded to the Player of Year in Atlantic 10 Conference this season. In addition, Wyatt is the most expressiveness player on the court. Definitely, he is the most popular player among the Temple fans. And I have the most shots of him as well.
This season, Temple Men’s Basketball had an impressive team. #1, Khalif Wyatt, was the best; #3, Anthony Lee, was a great defensive player; #33, Scootie Randall, was an all-action player; #32, Rahlir Hollis-Jefferson was a senior player who was very steady; #2, Will Cummings, was full of energy on the court; #22, Jake O’Brien, was a great three-point shooter from the bench; and #11, T.J. DiLeo, had high basketball IQ from the bench. This team gave Owls fans an amazing season.

2013 Temple NCAA Tournament2013 NCAA Tournament trip is the most important experience for me as a sports photographer.
I was so excited that I got this opportunity to cover the March Madness. This kind of excitement is stronger in my case--NCAA is the best college basketball league in the world and I never thought I could be so close to it.
As a basketball fan born and grown out of the States, I might feel the distance of NBA and NCAA. I didn’t get a chance to watch NCAA regular season games at the scene until last year. And the 2012 March Madness was the first time for me to feel it and watch live games on TV. Before I came to America, I had to download NCAA games because there was no broadcast live (Right now, one broadcast channel offer live NCAA games in China, but it is only for Final Four). To take photos in the NCAA
Tournament, there is no reason for me to be un-excited.
Actually, before I left for Dayton, I also felt a little pressure, or nervous. I got this great opportunity and I wanted to make it work greatly. The night before I flew to Dayton, I went through many basketball photos in Sports Illustrate and Philly.com. It gave me some hints and helped me. In fact, the NCAA Tournament shots are pretty challenging. Temple players wore black jerseys in these two games. And the black jersey is the hardest thing to focus on because it lacks of contrast and it moves fast.
Fortunately, the last Temple Men’s Basketball game is my best work in this season. It is a good ending for me.

Football Game Right now, football game shots is the most challenging for me. My lens can not reach that far in the football field and the scene is always crowded with players.

It’s More Than A Game Sports photography is not only the game shots. Interesting moments of fans are parts of it. And during the half-time, many activities are also held here. Players, no matter on the court or bench, all have strong emotion involeved in. Sports photography is more than game shots.
