Hiring Our Heroes

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation’s Hiring Our Heroes (HOH) initiative launched in March 2011 as a nationwide effort to connect veterans, transitioning service members, and military spouses with meaningful employment opportunities. Working with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s vast network of state and local chambers and strategic partners from the public, private, and non-profit sectors, our goal is to create a movement across America in hundreds of communities where veterans and military families return every day.

Overview

Hiring Events

• Career Summits: On base hiring events targeting transitioning service members and military spouses. Events not only include a hiring event, but provide essential training and skills to military jobseekers.

• Hiring Expos: Community-based hiring events with professional sports teams.

• Key Partners: Local and state chambers as well as state and federal agencies and non-profits.

• All events are free!

• Localized efforts to develop workforce solutions for military spouses

• Collaborative working groups hire, train, and advocate for military spouses, combating unemployment and underemployment

• Complemented by HOH’s Military Spouse Professional Network

• 8 MSEEZ designated in 2018; 8 targeted locations in 2019

• Provides military spouses with vital career development and employer networking opportunities in military communities around the world

• With roughly 80% of jobs filled by referral, networks aim to reduce job search time during frequent and unpredictable military moves

• 50+ locations near military installations around the world host at least one event per quarter

• Hosted 220 networking events in 2018 with over 2,000 military spouse and trusted employer attendees

• Cohort of 45 military spouses train for two days during intensive, career professional development

• Interactive sessions cover elevator pitch, resume, LinkedIn, salary negotiations, entrepreneurship, and more

• Partners engage with military spouses through breakout sessions and one-on-one mentorship

• New in 2019: 12 AMPLIFY sessions and 12 Networking Receptions offering employers the opportunity to meet & hire military spouse talent directly
