1918: Dr. V is born October 1st in Vadamalapuram, Tamil Nadu India

1976 : Dr. V retires after over 20 years in government service, Aravind Eye Hospital starts as an 11-bed clinic in a rented house in Madurai

1981 : Aravind reaches 10,000 surgeries a year

1985 : Aravind’s second hospital opens in Theni

1988 : Aravind’s third hospital opens in Tirunelveli

1993 : Harvard Business School case study published

1991 : Aravind reaches 50,000 surgeries a year

1992 : Aurolab is founded to manufacture high quality ophthalmic products at affordable costs.

1996 : LAICO is founded as an international training and consulting institute

1996 : Aravind reaches 100,000 surgeries a year

1997 : Aravind’s fourth hospital opens in Coimbatore

2003 : Aravind’s fifth hospital started in Pondicherry

2006: Dr. V passes away at Aravind-Madurai on July 7th
