Key Questions in Weather/Climate Applications
What are the weather / climate events that impact the decision-making of users? How to relate weather / climate information to
meaningful actions / practices for users?
Different Types of Users Decision-makers include: International officials (UN, Red Cross) Government official (Ministries) NMHS Staff Ag Extension agents, water resource managers,
disaster mgmt Farmers, ranchers, foresters, fishers Media

CAgM Focus Area 1 – Operational Agricultural Meteorology
ET 1.1 - Livestock, Poultry, and Inland Fisheries ET 1.2 - Agromet Products ET 1.3 - Forestry (Fire Weather, Fire danger rating) TT 1.1 - Publication on Case Studies TT 1.2 - Task Team on Guidelines for Developing
Agricultural Weather Bulletins
Joint CAgM–JCOMM Task Team on Weather, Climate and Fisheries
CAgM Focus Area 4 – Capacity Development ET 4.1 - Capacity Building ET 4.2 - Guidelines on Education and training in
Agromet
TT 4.1 - Developing Online Community of Climate and Agricultural Production
TT 4.2 – Identifying Agromet Publications and GAMP
GFCS User Interface Platform for Ag and Food Security
Expert Team 4 – Capacity Building a) Review and report on the synergies between WMO training
programmes (e.g. crop modeling, GIS and remote sensing applications in agrometeorology, climate smart agriculture, water footprint , etc.) and other international training programmes in order to identify needs/constraints/ opportunities of users to understand and use dedicated services and products;
b) Identify training needs required to improve agricultural meteorological services and to meet user requirements;
c) Review the training opportunities and methodologies from funded projects and in collaboration with the Global and National Agrometeorological Societies;
Expert Team 4 – Capacity Building d) Review the WMO Global Campus Initiative and make
recommendations how to integrate the work of the GCREAMS with this initative;
e) Review existing agrometeorological training activities (i.e. modules, exercises, different stakeholders, etc) and recommend which activities should be further used in agrometeorological
Expert Team 4 – Guidelines on Education and training in Agromet a) a) Review existing WMO publication on Guidelines for
Curricula in Agricultural Meteorology, Supplement No. 2 (WMO-No. 258) and the Manual on the Implementation of Education and Training Standards in Meteorology and Hydrology (WMO-No. 1083);
b) Transform the existing curricula in (WMO-No. 258) into learning outcomes per WMO-No 1083;
c) Develop a new supplement for WMO-No 1083 for agricultural meteorology;
d) Make an inventory of existing available institutions that offer education and training in agricultural meteorology;
Expert Team 4 – Guidelines on Education and training in Agromet e) Make an inventory of existing and available agricultural
meteorological textbooks for a range of levels of formal education and informal training;
f) Make recommendations based on the review in (d) to CAgM on which agricultural meteorological textbooks are suitable.

Example of Crop Planting Advice based on Rainfall
Crops: Millet and Sorghum • Crop Cycle: 90 – 120 days • 1 – Avoid planting before 10 June, but proceed to make field preparations. • 2 – From 11 to 30 June, plant long-cycle crops (120 days) as soon as the 10-
day cumulative recorded rainfall which reaches or surpasses 20 mm. • 3 – From 1 to 20 July, plant short-cycle crops (90 days) as soon as the 10-day
cumulative recorded rainfall reaches or surpasses 10 mm.
Due to the high spatial variability of rainfall, each farmer or village can make planting decisions based on their own raingauge.
Training and Capacity Building METAGRI project – Roving Seminars in West Africa
Only 10% of participants of Roving Seminars were
women. Lessons learned from WMO Conference on Gender will help Members increase the participation of women in Roving Seminars and other activities
AgMP provided support to NMHSs of India, Croatia, Ecuador, Peru, Romania and the Republic of Moldova to organize Roving Seminars
Liaised with FAO in Sierra Leone and Liberia
