OVERVIEW

Klara PAPUC Editor, Jurnalul de afaceri

The general context of the energy market, according to the European Commission’s latest reports which cover the first quarter of 2018 confirmed that the prices of electricity were relatively low at the beginning of the first quarter of 2018, primarily due to the warm weather. However, the situation changed in late February and early March throughout Europe due to the worsening of the weather conditions, the cold weather resulting in a higher electricity consumption, increasing electricity generation costs and market prices.

Conference

In order to address the most important strategies and directions of action in the automation, electrical and energy industries, for more than a decade now, the International Electric & Automation Show, taking place at the Palace of Parliament between the 18th and 20th of September 2018, is the place to be and to experience, first hand, an environment for connectivity, development and innovation. With an important expertise in organizing a highly technical event, IEAS is more than an event for industry professionals. It is designed as an integrative business platform which aims to offer information regarding automation, electric and energy industries, but also complex networking and business development programs, workshops and conferences that are of interest for industry professionals, strategy and development experts, trainers and policy makers in the government and academic areas.

Why participate

The program of the conference includes industry related conferences which aim to become a starting point for developing strategic directions for the industry, workshops which include case studies, new products and technology presentations, current opportunities for professional

development either in the form of job openings in this field or networking events that are meant to increase the chances of further developing strategies and products. The contests offer the Romanian university students’ a chance to make their projects come to life in the field of automation, electrical equipment, software and hardware, internet of things etc.

Energy market situation of 2018 on the global scaleIn the first quarter of 2018, the economic growth in the EU continued and it was also accompanied by GDP growth. In Q1 2018, according to the data of the European Network of Transmission System Operators, a 3% increase in energy consumption occurred in the EU-28, year-on-year comparison. If in January 2018 the electricity prices showed a temporary decrease in most of the European electricity regions, the situation changed, however, during February and March, when an increase in prices became similar to December 2017 levels.

In central eastern Europe (Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Slovenia), as the temperature was a bit milder than average, the consumption for the same period was lower but spiked during the following months due to the worsening of the weather conditions.

In the first two months of 2018, the hydro availability in Romania and the Balkans remained low, but the hydro reserves were improving due to the wet weather, which resulted in lower wholesale electricity prices in Romania and cheap electricity import sources for net electricity importer countries in the CEE region. The Balkans and South East Europe were the most important sources of electricity import for the CEE region in March 2018.

Numbers

At the 2017 edition of the IEAS, during the four days of the event, more than 3.000 people visited and 130 companies from automation, electrical equipment, energy industry and interconnected industries exhibited.

Following the energy market liberalization, Tinmar Energy started to provide energy and natural gas to domestic consumers also, by offering an authentic interaction with its clients, one that it’s capable to keep its promise “At your service with all our energy“.

6. IEAS 2018 Exhibition Focus

This is the first year when we need to ensure that our strategy is aligned to two types of client needs: wholesale (industrial/corporate clients) and retail (household clients). Therefore we need to make

sure that our flexible approach from the wholesale business is perfectly aligned with the easygoing and friendly relationship that the retail market requests. We are creating long terms partnerships, with real correlation between market evolution and pricing, while conducting a more cost efficient approach by bundling additional services in our offering. Particularly for the retail section, where we attend the needs of the households, we want to truly engage with each client and provide for them fully integrated services, such as: supplying green energy, providing insurance for their electronics against undesirable grid fluctuation, bill protection, in case of having difficulty in payments, for medical leave or unemployment, discounts for household works up to 30% for renovation, and last but not least, assistance for emergencies cases, whether it’s the sanitary system, pipes or locksmith at their service. All of these included in their subscription. We truly hope that our offers come across all our client needs and make their life easier in a timely efficient manner, so that they can truly appreciate the experience of being Tinmar’s client.

The ideas were innovative, young innovators want to demonstrate through these works that they are ready for the future"

The project from this year’s competition are innovative and cutting edge.

said Mr. Stefan Opris, member of the jury this year.

4.1. STUDENT TECHNICAL INNOVATION AWARDS

In 2017, the event was a true success and attracted a large number of cutting-edge innovation proposals, focused on topics such as robotic reliability, artificial intelligence, or virtual reality. We hosted the perfect meeting between the academic field and the market players.

Just like last year, the competition was open to all bachelor - and master’s level students of universities accredited in Romania and aims to award prizes to research results in the following areas: automation, electrical engineering, mechatronics and robotics, Internet of Things, constructions, installations, architecture, industrial software and hardware, nanotechnologies or Smart City.

The competition has two sections: Start Up and Technical Innovation. In the Start Up section, innovation proposals for the target areas can be submitted. In the Technical Innovation section, proposals must take the form of a prototype or of a highly-interactive technology: software, HMI or Smart Technologies.

4.2. INDUSTRY CONFERENCES AND WORKSHOPS

The automation and electrical equipment industry has gradually become one of the strategic pillars for the development of the global business environment and for the definition of general economic policies.

The agenda is very divers and reflects the concern of the companies to this industry.

During the IEAS fair, AFEER organizes the second edition of the National Energy Fair under the slogan “Be informed! Choose what it fits you!”.

AFEER continues the campaign launched in 2015 to properly inform consumers electricity – “An informed consumer is a protected consumer!”. During the three days, consumers will be able to talk directly with suppliers to better understand electricity offers.

Within the second edition of the AFEER 2018 National Energy Fair, Transelectrica will hold the conference “FutureFlow Project” - the integration of renewable resources into regional energy systems. The mission of this European project of great interest to regional energy markets is to identify more efficient and safer solutions for the integration of producers and consumers in European electricity markets and for optimal balancing of energy systems. In light of the increase in the share of renewable energy at European level, but also in view of the latest legislative changes in Romania, active consumers or consumers (consumers who consume but also produce energy) obtain official recognition and gain an important role in the development and optimal functioning of any system energy.

Also, on 18th of September we are organising with our Partner Energynomics the conference “Energy Efficiency - Best Practices and future scenarios” within the energynomics.ro campaign “Energy efficiency for results that matter“. The event aims to raise awareness and understanding of what it is and how to improve energy efficiency. For this, we aim to inform interested companies and end-users, including public and local authorities about the real and tangible benefits of reducing energy consumption.

Klara Papuc, Editor, Jurnalul de Afaceri

2018 made its debut by an increase in the price of energy by 15% on average, but also by the liberalization of the energy market starting from the 1st of January 2018. For the residential consumers, the actual price of electricity comprises not only of the electricity price, which represents around 35% of the actual price, but also of the price of the green certificates, of cogenerating bonuses and VAT. With more than 8 million household consumers in Romania, the convergence of retail electricity prices with medium and larger annual consumption showed a slight improvement, while in the case of customers with small annual consumption it practically remained the same.

According to the minister, it is a common fact that the Energetic Union is primarily concerned, among other things, about achieving very high standards regarding the energy efficiency, environment protection and the effect on the consumer.

IEAS Business Platform will continue in the same direction, acting as always, as a promoter for innovation, sustainable development and progress.

Thank you for IEAS 2018 and see you next year!

The Minister of Energy, Anton Anton, stated that the energetic strategy of Romania will be updated soon.

We would like to become a regional pole for the security in the energy sector. We want to become a crossroad for the routes of transportation that unite Europe with all of the surrounding areas."
