Mrs. Florence Siegel, President ot' Parents Association
Dear Boys and Girls,In "The Pearl", Kino, .a poor fisherman, express€s the hopes and aspirations of
parents everywhere for their children. "My son will read and open the books, andmy son will write and will know writing. And my son will make numbers, and thesethings will make us free because he will know-he will know and through him we willknow."
Even in a primitive society, Kino knew he was at a disadvantage because he wasignorant and illiterate. Today, in our society, there is no place for the untrainedounskilled and uneducated person. This fact should serve as a constant reminder ofthe necessity to take advantage of the educational opportunities available to you. Ifvou do this, you will not only better yourself but you will enrich and strengthen ourdemocratic way of life.
Our school has given you an excellent foundation for future Jearning. We wishvou success and happiness as you start the next phase of your education.
Affectionately,Florence Siegel

With Mrs. Reiss, Class 9-203 prepares for specialhigh school exams.
It takes more than just an idea to reach agoal. It takes the ability to visualize the idea, andto make plans that can be translated into reality.
Patiently and painstakingly, our Guidancecounsellors help us to formulate plans which canbe realized. They help us to assess our talents andrealize our potential. They teach us the differencebetween day-dreaming and planning.
In our Health Education classes and throughthe counselling of our doctor and nurse, we learnabout the marvelous machinery o,f our body andthe way to care for it. With this knowledge, weare building strong bodies which together witrh asound mind will help us to realize our hopes.

In Riverdale, we are fortunate not to know ofthe sorrow and cruelty of war and disaster. We donot know hunger or the feeling of ,being homeless.Thankfully, rve did not suffer as many Europeansdid during the past winter months.
When we give to needy people throughout thervorld, rte are saying to them, o'Here's just a smalltoken. We hope it helps you now and helps youlo hope in the future'"

With each moment, the boys and girls in the fifth and sixth grades grow a littlemore and their value becomes greater. Unlike the peail ,r^rhich must depend entirelyon the oyster for its growth, their grow.th is proportionate to their willingness to give-in school and at home. Through tleir own efforts, they can actively add to theirluster, constantly honing it brighter and finer.
