Transcript of overtone singing will be packing them in at various …the Great Irish Songbook into the Great...

Sligo Jazz Festival is one of Europe’s most unique. Six days of workshops, masterclasses, ensemble sessions, jam sessions and, of course, concerts. Most of the events take place atIT Sligo from 10am to 4pm each day. Some of the world’s most accomplished andrespected jazz musicians come to share their craft to an enthralled summer school of over120 participants each year. They are joined in their pursuits by many of Ireland’s prominentjazz players and educators.

What makes this festival so unique is the nature of the performances. Many of the concertsare one-off events, drawing from the amazing pool of musicians in our teaching faculty atour disposal each July. We also have visiting acts who are not teaching on the summerschool, including one of the UK’s finest youth orchestras and a young Brazilian group thatwill blow many minds. A varied line up of Nat King Cole classics, funky fusion, big bandmusic, Indian Konnakol music, a bit of Steely Dan, some modern jazz, world music and evenovertone singing will be packing them in at various venues in Sligo.

There are a few notable differences at this year’s event from previous events. Our twice-daily jam sessions at 6pm and 10pm are located at Andersons this time round. We also havea different format in the late jam session. Each night we will feature one musician from ourfaculty, given licence to invite others from the pool of amazing musicians to join them, for ashort 45 minute set each night in the middle of our famous jam session. This will addimmensely to six exciting nights of great music.

Enjoy!Eddie Lee

Artistic Director, Sligo Jazz Project
