Jennifer employed a clear, strong professional voice throughout the lesson. Instructions were clearwith lots of suggestions, hints and supports in place. It was quite obvious that Jennifer respected andcared for her students and that they returned the sentiments in kind. Questioning relied heavily onBloom, pushing students to those higher level thinking skills. A variety of strong managementtechniques were evident including excellent circulation during the written assignment, proximity control, positive reinforcement and non-verbal cues. Notes were recorded during the circulation on a checklistto be reviewed later. This was a very effective classroom environment.

4.b) Professional Knowledge - Implementing and Assessing

From the opening activity, the students were well engaged and intellectually invested in this lesson.Excellent access to prior knowledge helped to set the students on a path to success. Activities werevery sequential, following a clear gradual release of responsibility model. Success criteria was set withthe students. Learning goals were clearly defined. Both the goals and criteria were available forstudent reference. Jennifer was careful to use student examples for each of the "tips" ideas, allowingstudents an even greater commitment to the learning. Resources were well used. Assessment criteriain the form of a rubric was reviewed with students and again, made available for reference.Assessment strategies matched well with the curriculum expectations.

X

Identifies lesson expectationsLesson plans were excellent, reflecting the care and thought put into the many details. All materialswere prepared ahead and ready when needed throughout the lesson. Anchor charts were particularlywell done. Differentiated instruction methods were evident both for special needs students and thevarious learning styles within the class. Jennifer clearly understood the curriculum content in bothconcept and skill development. The activities followed the modelled / shared / guided method as it iscurrently practised.
