Severe Power crisis:
Peak Demand shortage - 2700 MW
Power cuts of 4-8 Hrs.
2 day Power holiday to Industries.
Measure taken:
Short term & Medium Term:
Staggering of loads 24 hrs of the day
Purchase from Exchange.
Increase in Generation by TSGENCO Plants.
Entering of Short term Power Purchase Agreements
Reduction of T&D Losses
Long Term:
Setting up of new plants by TSGENCO.
As a result of the above measures there is substantial
improvement in power supply position in the State. There is no
load relief from 20.11.2014 onwards.3
From Darkness to Light
9 Hrs Power Supply is given to Agriculture Sector in
Telangana State from 1st April,2016, successfully.
24 hours power supply was extended to agriculture
consumers on experimental basis in erstwhile three Districts
namely Medak from 16.07.2017, Nalgonda and Karimnagar
from 18.07.2017.
24 hours supply was extended to all districts from 06.11.2017
to 19.11.2017 on experimental basis and successful.
Hon’ble Chief Minister has directed the power utilities to
extend 24 Hrs power supply to Agriculture Sector in the
Telangana State from 01.01.2018 onwards.
With this, Telangana has Created New Record of Supplying
Quality Power Free of cost for 24 hours to the Agriculture
sector to 23 Lakh agriculture pump sets in Telangana state.4

Telangana Solar Policy is appreciated as best one in the country.
Telangana has got the highest installed Solar Capacity of
3203 MW and stands number One in the Country, as on today.
Telangana has implemented distributed generation model for
adding Solar Capacity. The advantages of this model given
below:
• Avoidance of investment of Rs.533 Crores at EHT level in the
transmission network.
• Saving of energy of 122 MU, amounting to an annual saving of
Rs.49 crores, as generation is closer to the demand.
• The above model is now being adopted by all the states.
19
Solar Power Generation
Reduction of T&D Losses to 12.34% by 2020-21.
Power Purchase Cost Optimization:
Addition of renewables at lower cost.
Surrendering of Telangana share of High cost CGS
Generators.
Backing down of high variable cost generators by active
participation in the Exchange.
Telangana in association with CEA & DFID is developing tool
for optimizing the daily power purchase cost by proper
load and price forecasting tools and optimization models.
Using Hydel projects in Pump mode operation.
Managing renewables by having REMC.
Taking steps towards Smart Grid.
