The appointment committee interviewed a strong field of short-listed candidates on Sunday. We have appointed Jessica Sharp to the role. Jessica introduces herself in this newsletter. I look forward to welcoming Jess to our school in the new school year. I am thrilled that Outram School is in a position to support, mentor and guide a newly qualified teacher starting out in their teaching career. We will gain much from Jess and she will gain a lot from working within an experienced staff. I am sure we will all make her feel welcome. So what is the school organisation for 2019? We are getting ever closer to the end of the school year and a number of events are coming up in the short time remaining. I am looking forward to Room 5’s item at tomorrow’s assembly. It will be a treat! On Tuesday, we have our Year 8 Graduates Dinner; a highlight of the year and always a special occasion. Next Friday is our final CAPES assembly for the year with Ezra Holmes returning to present the awards. Our final assembly is on Tuesday 18 th December at 1.00 pm. Introducing Jessica Sharp

Hello, I am Jessica Sharp. I have just graduated from Otago University College of Education with both Primary and Technology Education qualifications. I am from the small town of Pleasant Point in South Canterbury. I am the eldest of four children. I grew up on a small farm. This allowed me to have a wide range of animals including horses, goats, alpacas, and pigs. I have a strong sporting background, with interests in hockey, swimming, horse riding, and cricket. I am excited to have been given the opportunity to join the teaching staff at Outram School, and look forward to seeing you all next year.

Board of Trustees Chair Report

Kia ora koutou Last night's board meeting was the final one for the year. We reviewed the Bible in Schools consultation feedback. We received 41 responses. The majority of responses indicated that they were happy with the status quo. We discussed the feedback of those who indicated that they weren’t in favour of Bible in Schools continuing, and will look at ways to alleviate some of the concerns raised. Based on the support received the board agreed to continue with the current programme. If you have any concerns please come and have a chat with me, I’m happy to discuss it further. I would like to welcome Jessica Sharp to Outram School for next year. She has been appointed to the fixed term Year 4-5 position. I’m confident she is a good fit for our school and I look forward to her starting next year. Thank you to Jeremy, our teachers, teacher aides and support staff for all your work this year, you consistently go above and beyond for our children. Thank you to the team at FOS for the tireless fundraising that you do for the school. Thank you to the board for their contribution this year, they are a talented team. Thank you to all the parents, helpers and supporters that have helped make Outram the wonderful school that it is. Farewell to all our students and families that are leaving us this year. I wish you the very best for the next stage of your journey. Thank you for the contribution you have made to Outram School and we look forward to hearing of your progress in the years to come. Have a safe and relaxing holiday and I will see you in the New Year. Noho ora mai,

Chromebooks

If you are purchasing a Chromebook for your child as a Christmas present for learning at Outram School in 2019 then you need to read this. Chromebooks must be set up by school before they can be used at home so the Google account will operate properly. The final day for set up of Chromebooks will be Friday the 14th of December. There will be dates late January for set ups before the new year starts. A reminder that the office and I have flyers about the latest Noel Leemings package deals. Amber Paterson

Outram School Polo Fleeces – Second Hand – Cost Free

I have quite a few second hand Outram School Polo Fleeces that are surplus to requirement. These are totally free. I have sizes 8 to 14. Please call at the school office if you are interested.

POOL KEYS – Get your key before the holidays

of the season.

Fuel for Schools Fuel for Schools is a programme where people/businesses can nominate Outram School to earn

points when they purchase bulk fuel supplies from Southfuels. So if you get your fuel from Southfuels

we would love you to nominate Outram School. The points we earn enable us to choose a package

which could be sporting equipment or technology. We would like to thank Sinclair Saw & Mower, Outram Contacting, Mining Construction Equipment

Repairs Ltd & Riverview Trust who have already nominated us. We look forward to your support.

Outram School Hoodies

The board have designed a hoodie which is a new addition to our non-compulsory uniform items. This would be great to keep kids warm at school events i.e. touch, hockey, athletics etc. There is a sample in the office foyer for you to look at. I also have sample sizes for you to try on. This can be ordered and paid for at the school office. Cost is $67 for kids size 6-14 or $69 for adults sizes XS-3XL.

Here is a simple way to fundraise for Outram School without you having to

give up your time – just buy petrol at Challenge Petrol Stations Challenge has introduced My Challenge, a new rewards programme where you can choose to donate your fuel discount to us. A 6c fuel discount can equal 6c for us each time someone chooses to donate it. This may seem like a small amount on its own, however over time, and with lots of people donating, could add up to a lot. You can sign up here. [https://mychallenge.co.nz/communities]
