Congratulations to Miss Lauren Wong who successfully applied for a position at Newbury PS and will take the role as a Year 2 teacher there. Lauren has been at Sherbourne now for 5 years in the 1/2 and 3/4 areas – most students have been taught by Lauren at some stage – she too will be sadly missed.

On Monday morning the Year 3-6 choir entertained shoppers at Greensborough plaza with a jolly rendition of Christmas carols and songs. They did a great job learning all the lyrics for so many songs and bringing cheer to a cloudy damp morning. Well done choir members – it is a very special experience. A huge thanks to family and friends who could join us and a big thank you and well done to Choir director Amanda Oakley ably assisted by Miss Lau-ren Wong. We were very proud of you all!

On Tuesday morning staff prepared a thank you morning tea to acknowledge the work of so many parents and friends who help across the school throughout the year. We were pleased some of you could make it but acknowledge many of you couldn’t. Our heartfelt thanks for the part you have played – sorry you missed our culi-nary tributes. You will really regret missing Anna Lloyd’s sweet delights!

Many thanks to Don, Jane and Peter who prepared the yard, gutters and school for the predicted very heavy rains last weekend. I am pleased to announce the school did not suffer badly throughout the heavy rain. We really ap-preciate the effort and time you each gave to preparing the school to minimise damage. THANK YOU!

CAROLS ON THE OVAL

Next Thursday December 14 at 7.00pm is our whole school Carols on the Oval event. This is a much loved annual event at Sherbourne.

Families are invited to bring along some chairs, a picnic rug and your tea and enjoy the carols the students have been working on this term.

The evening will start promptly at 7.00pm with a keyring presentation to our Year 6 students and any other fami-lies who are leaving Sherbourne at the end of the year. Following this all classes will perform the Christmas carols they have been practising including a Japanese song they have learned with Mrs Brant. Both Junior and Senior choirs will perform.

This year families will be required to bring their own tea to carols . There will not be a bbq prior to the event this year.

HEADLICE

There have been several reports of headlice in different areas of the school currently. Headlice are a real nuisance and can be very hard to eliminate. Families will need to be vigilant checking, treating and removing headlice then repeating the treatment and through comb through 7 days later.

To discourage easy transfer of lice and nits those students with longer hair are requested to please tie back their hair at school each day.

It is of small solace that lice actually like clean hair. We thank families for reporting incidents- it is only with every-one’s co-operation we can break this very annoying and time consuming cycle. Thank you!

CLASS PARTIES

Traditionally on the second last day of Term 4 we hold the annual Sherbourne Billy Cart Derby. This year it will fall on Thursday December 21.

Entry forms are available from the office.

Following the Billy Cart Derby we hold “class parties”. A former parent of the school will provide the food for each class party at a cost to each participant that is included in your Term Planner. If you will not be partaking in the Class Parties, for example, your family will not be at school on those final two days, please put this in writing by Wednesday December 13 so we can cater accurately please.

Our first egg!! Students were delighted on Tuesday to discover our new hens have started laying! It is terrific to know they are feeling happy and healthy in their Sherbourne home. We are still looking for helpers over the Christmas break to let out and feed our chickens. Please let the office or Jane Young know if you can help ASAP. Thank you!

As the 2017 school year comes to a close preparations are underway for our students with medical conditions in readiness for 2018. Please notify the office immediately if your child suffers from any of the abovementioned medi-cal conditions. All medial conditions should be notified to school & Special Medical forms can be obtained from the office. Parents who have notified school of the abovementioned conditions will be receiving forms to update infor-mation, some action plans requiring completion & or a signature from a medical professional. It would be greatly appreciated if medical forms could be returned to school before the end of year. If your child no longer has this medical condition and wish the condition to be removed from their medical notes please note this on the medi-cal form along with a signature & date.
