What is an outline?

• It is a written list or description of only the most important parts of an essay, speech, plan, etc.

• The paper is double-spaced 12-point, Times New Roman font.

• 5 paragraphs:1. Introduction + thesis2. Body (paragraph 1)3. Body (paragraph 2)4. Body (paragraph 3)5. Conclusion

Introduction

• Tell me what attention-getting device you plan to use. • Next, tell me your plan to relate

the topic to the audience. • Lastly, tell me how you will build

your credibility.

• The main points in your essay are written in Roman numerals.–You can write fragments, but I prefer

you write a topic sentence such as…I. The first health factor that

contributes to Chris’ drug abuse is communication.
