THE QUESTIONS

• WHAT IS THE CITY SPACE?

• WHERE IS THE BOUNDARY?

For eg. In China, the temple is the special place. It quite like the traditional gardens. When we get into the high wall, everything is so different from the out side. It is the Pure Land. So when a temple or a traditional garden just inside the city, how to define it?

• I think OUT OF CITY SPACE is just a feeling.

• The old saying in China, 小隐隐于野，大隐隐于市。 It just talking about the space in

mind. A person who wants to be free, escape is the most easy way. But there are some great people, they can change the environment in their mind. So they will feel they’re out side the city space, they can smell the fresh air, they can touch the wind, although they’re still there.

• Most of us can not do like that. So in most time we will make some place which is simulate the nature. Such as the national park, the zoo and so on.

• But I think they are not enough. For they just put some nature elements in it. Such as some trees, a piece of glasses, or some animals in the coops.

• What will make us feel the nature?

• 我认为 get a piece of city space into nature 将城市功能元素部转移至自然当中去这个观点来得慎密些。• 其一，城市之所以成为城市，那是人类文明发展的结果，城市的很多元素今后都会成为农村所具有的，诸如养老保险、医疗保险、普及教育，基础建设上（如公路、铁路、商业等）也会越来越发达。今后的农村就是城市的延伸，是一个农村大工厂，而农民与在城市打工的工人没什么差别。我们现在要关注城市之外，意在使得现在还不发达的地方在不久的将来发达起来，使得现在还很纯朴能够保持这种自然美，使得农村中落后之处，在发展时有计划地改变。把人类的能量从高处往低处衍射，就像丢进河中的石子，在水面上形成的环形水波一样，一圈一圈衍射出去。• 其二，做这项研究的人，是你们 - 经过 15~16 年教育的大学生，以及你们的导师，绝对的国家精英。你们都是在城市中长大，至少是在城市中受的教育，你们的思想方式、观点，生活习惯和行为准则，无不打上城市的烙印。没有一年半载甚至更长时间在农村的生活体验，都没有办法说清楚 get a piece of nature into the city space( 将自然元素融入城市空间），只能在嘴上、纸上泛泛而谈，讲不深刻。以比较高的视点来看四周，看得清楚，但这是不可逆的。• 其三，还是要讲讨论的出发点和方法。不能把城市的硬件搬到农村，即不能把城市的意志强加给农村，而是要尊重自然，顺应自然，欣赏自然。这样才会做好城市之外这篇大文章。农村有城市的倒影，这个观点我又奇异，我赞成将来的农村有城市的现代文明血脉，是滋养现代农村蓬勃发展的内在因素。外在的表象的，依然是与城市风貌迥异的山坡、田野、小桥、人家 ......

In My Mind

• The nature, city and human can’t be thinking separately. So what I should do is just put a piece of nature into the city space. And make the city space sometimes feel like nature. This is out of city space.

The illustration

• The piece of nature inside the city I called it Nature Station. It quite like the gas station. Just a few minutes to make the residents feel the nature.

• And the piece of city inside nature is not the same as the first. I just want to make a space like SOHO. For somebody who wants to work in the nature space, with trees, flowers, lakes and so on.

• So I divide the design to two parts.• THE FIRST –put a piece of nature inside the city space• THE SECOND –put a piece of city inside nature
