To the students of NBHS,
Aim High, Soar Higher! We are off to a great school year. This is your year, your New Beginning! Make it count each day. Come into this building everyday determined to do your best, be your best, and you will see your best. Don’t forget, this is your school. It takes all of us to make it happen. Students, we need you to help us take care of our school. Help us keep the hallways, classrooms and bathrooms clean. Stay focused and keep on task. You are here to get your diploma. Being part of a club helps for college and job applications. This will provide a creative
outlet for students, another reason for students to come to school, and gives the school a
more interesting environment.
All students are able to join, however some may have a maximum capacity. Sign up
begins September 25th
and the clubs will meet the 1st and 4

Mr. Deddrick Miller is one of our schools computer tech support. He was born & raised
in Winter Haven, Florida. His first car was a Toyota Tercel. Today, Mr. Miller is happily married to his beautiful wife and has three
children, two boys and a girl. Outside of school he can be found enjoying time with his family or being a musician at church every weekend.
Mr. Miller has always had a passion for music. Because of this, his favorite subject in school was music and a close second was History. His parent's are his
inspiration. He's only been at New Beginnings for 10 days so far, but he's been a computer
tech for the past three years and he's still in college working on finishing his degree. Previously, he
worked at a juvenile prison for two years. This is his first job at a school. Mr. Miller believes
that “everyone deserves a second chance.” He learned about New Beginnings through the
company he works for, ITeknical. He says his experience at New Beginnings so far has been
great.
Mr. Hill is one of our NBHS bus
drivers. He also keeps track of and
passes out everyone’s breakfast and
lunch daily. He was
born in El Rino,
Oklahoma and raised
in Sundown, TX. His
favorite subject in
school was history.
He also says that his
gym teacher was an
inspiration for his
future while growing up. Before
coming to NBHS he delivered life
saving hospital supplies. Mr. Hill
found NBHS online and felt it would
be an enjoyable job. This is a new
beginning for him, since he hasn't
worked for a school before.
Ms. McCoy is a science teacher here at NBHS. She
was born and raised in Washington D.C. She has a
25 year old step-daughter and is a grandmother of
three. Her favorite subject in school was science. Her
first car was a 1983 Gold Mustang. Ms. McCoy’s
inspiration is her mom, she was her life. She would
go to work with her mom faithfully
everyday. She would always pretend
that she worked there. When someone
would walk-in her mom's shop, she
would take their name down and tell
them to have a seat. She would yell to
her mom and tell her that she had a
customer waiting for her. Ms. McCoy
has been teaching for 2 years. Before
she came to New Beginnings High
School she was teaching at Don E.
Woods. Ms. McCoy learned about New Beginnings
from her best friend. Her reason to work here is that
she wants to help young people advance in life and
better themselves. New Beginnings is a beginning for
her, an opportunity to tell her story through
teaching to help someone else with their life. After
school, she goes straight to Haines City High School
to coach the girls basketball team. So far, her
experience here has been great!
Mr. Lynum was born in Gainesville, FL and raised in Atlanta, GA. Growing up, Mr. Lynum excelled in high-school and while in college, he majored in Business. After graduating, he enlisted in the Army where he served eight years. After completing his tour in Afghanistan, Lynum became a Military Instructor. He served for two years training recruits. He later decided that he would become a teacher. He taught at Ed White High, then entered a job search and landed at New Beginnings High-School (NBHS) teaching a College and Career Course. NBHS is a new beginning for Lynum because “converting from military to civilian life was a big change.” He now has a career that he enjoys because it provides an opportunity to impact the lives of “Young America”. He has four children of his own - two
boys, two girls. Mr. Lynum's
experience at NBHS has been
“great. The students are
responsible, responsive, and
respectful.”
Mrs. Grennor is the Office Manager for New
Beginnings wonderful
staff. She has been at
NBHS since the middle
of last year. She said
her time here has been
wonderful. She was
born and raised in
Atlanta, Georgia. Her
first car was a Dodge
Ram she does not have
any children. Before she
worked at New Beginnings she worked at
Carltons Attorney. She Believes NBHS Is a
new beginnings for her because it gave her a
chance to start another career.
Mr. Buford, a Math Teacher at NBHS, was born
and raised in Birmingham, Alabama. He has
two daughters, one is in High School
and the other is in Middle School. His
first car was a 1967 American Motors
Rambler 440. One of his inspirations
is his mother. Mr. Buford’s favorite
subject in school was Science.
Before coming to NB he worked at
Department of Children and
Families, but has been teaching
since 2002. He wanted to work at
NB to teach High School and for a new
challenge and different experiences. He has
enjoyed his experience at NB so far. After the
students are gone for the day, Mr. Buford continues
to work and even has his own tutoring business.
Officer Cox was born in Polk County Florida at the Bartow Regional Hospital and was raised in
Winter Haven, Fl. Cox has four children, a wife, and two grandkids.
Cox's favorite subject in school was science. His first car was a “junky Chevrolet”. While Cox was growing up, he was heavily influenced by his grandmother. He
stated she was his inspiration because she
was so sweet and caring. Cox has been an officer
for five and a half years. Before NBHS he was a patrol officer in Winter
Haven. NBHS is a new beginning for Cox because this is his first time being a school's
resource officer. Cox's experience at NBHS so far has been good. He stated that he enjoys the job but, when the last student leaves, he goes
home and is a Dad and a Husband.
Mrs. Rosen was born in up-state N.Y. but was
raised in St. Cloud, Florida. Her first car was a 4-
door Ford F-350 dually. Her inspiration is her
parents because they have been a big part of her
life. Mrs. Rosen has been teaching for 8 years, 1
year in Elementary, 6 years in Middle, and this is
her first year teaching High School. Her favorite
subject was Language Arts. She was horrible in
Math, in fact she had to go to Sylvan Learning
Center for tutoring. She currently has no children,
but plans to adopt or foster. She found NBHS
online and what interested her was
the mission and vision NBHS has for
the students. What she likes about
this school is that NBHS provides
the opportunity for a diploma no
matter what life have thrown at
people. Her experience so far
this year has been interesting
and hectic at the same time.
After school lets out, Mrs. Rosen
goes home and prepares horses for
weekend barrel racing competitions.
Ms. Yates was born and raised in Athens, Greece.
Her favorite subject in school was Science. If you ask her who her inspiration was, she
will tell you her parents. Her first car
was a Chevy Cavalier. She was a
teacher for five years at Richard L.
High School. Ms. Yates doesn’t have any children . . .
maybe one day. Now she is here at New
Beginnings because she wants to help
people. New Beginnings is a new start for
her in a way because she wants to meet
new people. I asked her how her
experience has been so far and she said,
“Superb!” Sometimes after school, Ms.
Yates stays late after school to complete
unfinished things, then she goes home.
Meet Mrs. Cruz. This young lady was
born in Brooklyn, New York and
raised in New Jersey. She has one kid
and that is plenty for her. Her first car
was a Scion XB. When Mrs. Cruz was
in school, her favorite subject was
Spelling. While growing up, her
inspiration was her mother because she
is who made Mrs. Cruz who she is now.
Mrs. Cruz has been a
bus driver for one
month here. Before
she was working at
NBHS, she drove
buses for another
school district. Mrs.
Cruz’s experience
so far at NBHS has
been excellent.
Mr. Lawson’s favorite subject in
school was English, which is what led
him to become an English teacher. He
has been teaching for three years.
Before he came to teach at New
Beginnings High School, he was
teaching at Drop Back In. Mr. Lawson
was born in Sanford, FL and his inspiration is his mother. His first
car was a
Chevrolet Aveo, which is an old car. He found
this school by looking it up on
the Internet. His
experience so
far has been
good, and
everybody has
been helpful.
Mrs. Nelson is in charge of making sure you
get your credits to graduate. She was raised
and lives in Lakeland Florida. She has two
children, a son and a daughter. Her son is 18
years old and her daughter is 20 years old.
Mrs. Nelson favorite subject in school was
Physical Education. Mrs. Nelson stated that
basketball was her strong suit. Her
inspiration is her mother. Mrs. Nelson has
been working in the field of education for 14
years. Before she came to New Beginnings,
she has been working from home for five
years. Mrs. Nelson decided to work at New
Beginnings because she has been looking to
get back into the field of education. She feels
like she would be perfect for this job
because of her 11 years of experience
working with at-risk-youth.
She understands the
struggle students go
through to obtain their
High School education.
After the last bell at the
end of the day, Mrs. Nelson
continues to work. She
catches up on work and
plans for the next day.
Ms. Davis works in
the back office at
NBHS. She was
born and raised in
Lakeland, FL. She
has two children, a
boy and a girl.
When she was
going to school, her favorite
subject was Math. Her inspiration is
her Grandma. Before New
Beginnings, Ms. Davis was a
Pastor’s Secretary for the Church.
Ms. Davis is working here because
she likes working with youth.
Because of this, she enjoys being at
work everyday.
This is Mr. Farms. He was
born and raised in
Fairfax, Virginia and his
first car was a 1990
Honda Civic. Mr. Farms
and Mrs. Farms plan on
having a child sometime
next year. His favorite
subject in school was
Paleobioarchaelogy, which
is a mix of Science and Social
Studies. His biggest
inspiration is any renaissance man in human
history. He has been teaching for three years, although this is his first time teaching
in a traditional school. Before NBHS he owned his own company. He found NBHS on
the Internet and what made him work here was he wanted to help the students reach
there new beginning. He says that his experience here so far as been really good. After the last bell he starts planning for the
next day, putting together mental preparations as well as lesson plans,
worksheets and PowerPoints.
This is Mrs. Taylor! She is our Para,
Classroom Assistant. Before she came to New
Beginnings she was a
Juvenile Justice
Enforcement Officer for
girls. Mrs. Taylor started
a job hunt, so she went
to websites and saw
New Beginnings High
School. After reading
the website, she knew
that this is where she
could start her New
Beginning! She loves
dealing with young people who
are looking towards their future. Other than
that, Mrs. Taylor has three young adults, and
after school she loves to go fishing, to read,
and she especially enjoys cooking.
Mrs. Lindros, one of our NBHS History
teachers, was born in Detroit on 6 mile. She
has four children and is not planning to
have anymore. Her inspiration is a student
she doesn't want to name. This is her first
year of teaching and it's everything she
expected. After she job searched on the
Polk County website, she found the position
for NBHS. She then knew she
could change lives. Before,
she was a paralegal for
intellectual property, but
now she's around kids that
are just like her! After the
last bell she picks up her
baby, and goes home to
cook. Her first car was a
Chevy Chevette with holes in the
floorboards.
Ms. McNair is one of our History teachers. Her
first car was a gold Toyota Avalon. She plans to
have at least one child within the next 20 years.
She was born and raised in Gautier, Mississippi.
Her favorite subjects in school were Social Studies
and PE. Her inspiration is Oprah. Before New
Beginnings, she worked at a pharmacy. She has
been teaching for a year and a half. She found New
Beginnings while driving by
and she saw the “enroll
today” sign so she stopped to
find out more information.
Her experience so far is that
she has had a warm welcome
and she is very excited and
feels blessed for this
opportunity. New
Beginnings is a very new
beginning for her, she feels
like she will learn a lot from her
students. Finally, after all the students leave for
the day, she goes and gets something to snack on
after a long day.
Ms. Precil was born
in Queens, NY but
was raised in
Orlando, FL. Her
first car was a 90's
Toyota Corolla. She
does not have any
children and doesn't
want any for now. Her
favorite subject when she was in
school was English. Her inspiration is
B.R AmbedKar. Ms. Precil has been
teaching for 7 years. Before NBHS,
she worked at home grading
standardizedtests. She found NBHS
on a job search. NBHS is a new
beginning for her because it's more
hands on with the educational
process. So far, Ms. Precil says her
experience has been exciting.
Mrs. Baldwin, is one of our
Reading teachers here at New
Beginnings. She was raised in
New Jersey but born in
Pennsylvania.
Mrs. Baldwin has been teaching
for eight years, and she is also
a mother of two boys and one
girl. Her greatest inspiration
is Jesus. Her
favorite subject
in school was
Social Studies.
Before coming to
NBHS she was
teaching at
Drop Back In.
So far, Mrs.
Baldwin's
experience here
at New Beginnings
High School has
been very nice.

You see this emblem on your shirts and even on the floor in the front lobby…. Do you know
what the pieces stand for? Mrs. Yates has a box at the
front counter. Enter to win a prize for the first card pulled
that has all eight pieces correct!
Mrs. Esposito was born in Queens, New York and
raised in Manhattan. She has two children and said, “she's too old for anymore.” While growing up, her first car was
a Volkswagen. Her inspiration is her Mom; she made her who she is today. When Mrs. Esposito was in school, her favorite subject was Science.
Before she came NBHS, she was a worker for the Department of Transportation. She has been a data base administrator for 14 years. Mrs. Esposito learned about New
Beginnings through a friend. She chooses to work here because she believes in Mrs. Wrights’ vision. New Beginnings is a new
beginning for her because she likes helping people so they can be a better person and
have a fresh start. Her experience so far has been a learning experience. After the last
student leaves she stays until 6:30 working in her office.
Mrs. Brown is a Student Parent
Advocate at NBHS. She was born
in Tennessee and her first car
was a 1970's Hornet. In 2012,
she was a Music Teacher at NBHS. Ms. Brown likes
to play the piano and has four children.
Her favorite subject in school was
English. Her inspirations are her
Mom and her first teacher, Mrs.
Patton. Mrs. Brown found NBHS
through a friend and after
working here for a while, decided
to stay. Her experience at NBHS
has been interesting. After the
last bell, Mrs. Brown stated,
“that's when the fun starts.”

Boxers Visit
School On Friday, September 6th these amazingly well trained, friendly dogs came to visit Ms. Rosen’s Elective Students. The focus of the course is helping the animals at the Polk County Humane Society find “forever” homes. Students will be helping by taking good photos, making slideshows, and assisting in training the animals.
