Our Lady, Mother of the Church Page Two
Dear Sisters & Brothers in Christ,
We are in some way a ‘push-button immediate-effect’ society. If there is no immediate effect we are checking – what’s wrong. Most of our devices, tools, and vehicles work in this way. We push the accelerator pedal and we move. Should we apply that manner of operation to all aspects of our life? In the gospel most of the parables refer to the natural world, to farmers’ reality, shepherds’ care, rivers and sky, sand and rock, vineyard and field. There is no push-button effect in growing crops. It takes time, it depends on many circumstances and conditions. Today in the gospel reading we hear a parable about a seed sown into the ground. There is no immediate crop on a field. Moreover, the whole effort of the sower can be wasted if there is not enough soil on the ground, the soil is not deep enough, or if it is too rocky ground or too many thorns around. But, if the seed falls on rich soil, it produces an abundance of fruits. Jesus was not a farmer; Jesus was
not offering farmer classes. He talks about the kingdom of God illustrating it with parables.
Most times, parables helped people to understand the truth. In today’s gospel reading it sounds like parables prevent people from understanding. Jesus speaks to His disciples directly and little by little they come to understand who He is. Our maturity in faith grows little by little, too.
We are in a slowed down world. Perhaps we’re trying to push the accelerator pedal to run on a speed we were accustomed to for years. Perhaps we’re creating a cross for the world which we did not expect. We had sown a good seed and, now, we are having a hard time finding fruits. Perhaps this is good time to reflect and think anew of what really is important in our life. What really brings a hundred or sixty or thirtyfold crop in our life.
I know, that not all parishioners have an email, and did not receive updates sent in an electronic way about liturgies from our church which are streamed on-line. Anyway, we stream video from our church sanctuary 24/7. The link to the YouTube channel is in this bulletin and on the website. We can attend Masses in-person again, but still there are many too vulnerable people in health terms to attend the church. On weekends we celebrate two Masses: on Saturday at 5 p.m. and on Sunday at 11 a.m. Both can be seen on-line.
To attend Mass at the church registration is required. Sign-up sheets are available on the parish website. Registration by phone is possible, but only till Friday noon. The same applies to the Sacrament of Reconciliation on Saturdays.
We have very dedicated volunteers for set-up in the church, to greet at the door, to disinfect after the liturgy, but we need more to restore other Masses with faithful attendance. If you can help, please let us know.
May God bless you,
Father Andrew

Our Lady, Mother of the Church Mission Statement
We, the members of Our Lady, Mother of the Church, are drawn together through baptism as a part of the Body of Christ. We are a caring Catholic community, working together as instruments through which Jesus, our risen Lord and Head, continues His mission. Linked to Christ as His Body, we be-lieve that the risen Jesus still proclaims God’s word, gives thanks and praise, welcomes, nurtures, com-forts and reaches out to all people. Using the hands and hearts of the members of the parish, with a growing sense that each of us is gifted and has an important part to play in our Parish, Church and World, we renew our call: ♦ to be a Parish diligent about Word and Eucharist,
the primary source of our nourishment and spiritual growth... ♦ to be “missioned” - sent forth in the person of
Jesus, to bring His Word and Eucharist to family, friends, neighbors and workplace...
♦ to reach out to the sick, the homebound, the per-secuted, the lonely, the poor and the bereaved…
♦ to find time to share laughter, joy, friendship, at times, tears; and always to share the goodness of each other...

Prayer to St. Michael the Archangel
St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle; be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray; and do you, O prince of the heavenly host, by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan and the other evil spirits
who prowl about the world for the ruin of souls.
Amen.
