“Even to your old age I am the same, even when your hair is gray I will bear you;

It is I who have done this, I who will continue, and I who will carry you to safety.”

(Isaiah 46:4)

Our Wedding Story Juan and Candelaria

March 2013 Comasagua, El Salvador

The Groom Juan

The BrideCandelaria

Our Lives Juan and Candelaria grew up and still remain in Comasagua,

a lush, mountainous region in western El Salvador. For 52 years, the couple has shared a dark, two-room rundown cement home with dirt

floors. Both 83 (although Juan asserts “she’s six months older”), they have survived two major earthquakes, countless harvest seasons,

several scary hospital visits, and raised one daughter together.

Our FaithLife has not been easy in Comasagua, but the couple has survived.

“God provides blessings through other people,” Juan said. He offers this advice to young families facing challenges:

“You have to start by praying to God, because He brings everything. You have to work hard, and you have to economize.”

Our Wedding As Juan and Candelaria grew old together, they wanted to be united

under God, as assurance that they would be together always. Although Juan experienced pre-wedding jitters – “I felt like my throat

was closing up,” he said – the couple wed in March 2013. “There was no dancing, but there was food,” Candelaria said.

“I felt an incredible happiness.”

Our FutureJuan and Candelaria pray that they’ll spend many

more years together. “The first thing I do is thank Him for giving us one more day of life,” Juan said. But now, regardless of what the future holds,

they know that they will be together. They are living proof that it’s never too late to plan

for the future, or to create a meaningful, lasting legacy.
