Find out about Wisnu’s career philosophy here!

How did Pak Wisnu start his career?

I could trace back to my college days when I took part-time jobs to earn more money. I once tutored Math and Physics at Primagama and even worked at an online café. But my professional career started in 2003 after I finished college. Because there weren’t many technological industries there yet in my hometown of Yogyakarta, I moved to Batam and worked at Astra Microtronics Technology – a factory that makes semiconductors (IC – Integrated Circuit).

I worked for a few years there as a Customer Service Representative. After that, I moved to Huawei Technology and was sent to China to learn more about their industry. I moved to a number of companies (Datacraft Asia, Eserv Global), then I moved to Hewlett Packard, and after that to Cisco Systems. Both were Silicon Valley companies. And now I’m in Home Credit Indonesia since September 2015.

As you can see I’ve always been in multinational companies. I feel fortunate to have that opportunity because I have many chances to learn and meet people from different countries. The bureaucracy in these companies also aren’t complex or confusing.

Why did Pak Wisnu join Home Credit Indonesia?

First of all, it was a new industry for me. I used to work in IT companies, so joining Home Credit Indonesia was a new venture into the world of multipurpose financing. I feel that the more I age, I need to experience different industries. Hence, it also builds up my portfolio and experience.

Secondly, I had interesting interview sessions during my recruitment. My interviewers didn’t ask normal questions, but invited me to discuss with them. That felt new, and it made me think that this company has a different way in running their business.

Lastly, it’s a multinational company. I want to stay as much as possible in multinational companies so I can do business trips, benchmarking abroad, and learn new things in a diverse company culture.

From our 4 values, which of these values represent you the most?

For me, truly represents me, and to my team too. The Operations team is like a family. When one of us has difficulty in something, we will Fair help each other. Our work load is high, but we support each other.

That’s how I try to implement my value in my team. Basically, we’re all in this together. Everyone has the chance to learn and improve themselves in the Operations team.

We also have our own motto: One Ops, One Team. Our team core value right now is LIVE which stands for L = Learning Continuously, I = Integrity in Our Action, V = Value Result & Relationship, E = Empowering others to be better. The point of this is that we want to develop and help each other in the process.

What is your hobby?

I love riding Vespa motorbikes. I even have one at home that I’ve kept for years now. It’s been modified quite a number of times so it looks quite pretty. Sometimes I would do a little outing with my team who owns Vespa and we would go out biking at night, finding places to sit around and eat.

But my most favorite hobby would be chess. I love playing chess, mostly because it’s a game that lets you think strategically. And for me, playing chess isn’t about winning. I would play with some co-workers in Operations and I would lose sometimes, but that’s okay.

In fact, I love chess so much that I often play it on a phone app for 3 years now. It keeps record of my winnings and losses streak. It’s simply a very fun game that helps me train my logic a lot.

Favorite food?

I like a lot, and every time I go home to Yogyakarta I would try to find there. Contrary to my heritage, isn’t really my favorite. It’s soto soto gudeg too sweet for me now hahaha.

If you can name your biggest achievement in life, what would it be?

I never really thought about my biggest achievement. But, I think it would be the fact that I can support myself without my parents’ help, and in turn financially help my parents and people around me. Being financially independent has been an important achievement and it helps with a lot of things that I can develop.

 What is your life motto?

There is a saying in Latin: . It means “May your will be done”. That means a lot to me in trying to achieve what I want. But at the fiat voluntas tuaend of the day, whatever the results may be, it’s God’s will and I am grateful. This kind of thinking somehow gives me inner peace.
