Greetings from Noel Williamson:

We are going to be so blessed on August 13th by having Dr. David Horton from Fruitland Baptist Bible College come and challenge us with the Word of God at our SYBA Annual Meeting. David has served as President of Fruitland Baptist Bible College since June 1, 2009. David is passionate about the expositional preaching of God’s Word, mentoring students, and leading Fruitland to achieve its God-ordained mission.

David’s wife, Lisa, is a valuable partner in ministry. David and Lisa have three grown children and several grandchildren with whom they enjoy spending time. Before coming to Fruitland, David served 30 years in the pastorate and two terms as President of the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina. He has also served one term on the Southern Baptist Convention Executive Committee.

David graduated from UNC-Greensboro with a BA in Psychology and from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary with a Master of Divinity degree and a Doctor of Education degree. David desires the hand of God and the anointing of God to be upon all that he does in life and ministry.

As you can see, David is a man of God and a mentor to many pastors and future pastors.

Fruitland Baptist Bible College is a ministry of the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina. Many of our SYBA pastors have attended Fruitland, and two of our SYBA pastors teach there. As a matter of fact, more than 25% of Baptist pastors in North Carolina are Fruitland graduates. Fruitland has truly impacted our Association, and it is so great to have their leader share with us. I hope to see you there!

SYBA Iredell County Fair Ministry Nicholas Cash, from Boy Scout Troop 174, has chosen the SYBA Fair Ministry as his Eagle Scout project. Nicholas will be providing the hygiene care bags we will be giving to the traveling fair workers. Please pray for Nicholas and his troop as they continue with their fundraising efforts and as they meet to assemble the care bags. There are many other ways individuals and SYBA churches may be involved with this annual ministry. Please consider providing and serving one of the meals or drinks and desserts each day to the workers. The week is usually a hot one, so bottles of water and Gatorade are needed. We also need laundry items to give away including detergent pods (11-12 oz. size packages), dryer sheets (30—50 sheets per box), and rolls of quarters. In addition, we will have a clothing giveaway one day for the workers. They always are in need of new or gently used t-shirts, black pants or shorts, jeans, shoes, socks, underwear, blankets, etc. Please contact Mary Jane Hoover for additional information or to commit to serving with the Fair Ministry. Please pray for safety, great weather, and for lives to be changed!

Appalachian Backpack PartnershipThe

SYBA goal this year is 650 backpacks. Filled backpacks may be delivered to the

Baptist Center regular business hours (Monday—Thursday, 9:00—4:00)

in October. Our SYBA church members not only have the privilege of providing the back-packs, but delivering them to the children as well. You may hear a firsthand child’s testimonial like this one: “Thank you for the backpack you gave me. I needed the binder for science class.” The backpacks will be delivered and distributed by SYBA mission team members in Kentucky and West Virginia. You may go online for a list of items (www.baptistonmission.org). Information will also be available at our upcoming SYBA annual meeting. A professional background check is required for all mission team members over the age of 18.
