INTERNATIONALCREDIT UNION WEEK
KGEFCU joined the Kauai Chapter of Credit Unions in
celebrating International Credit Union (ICU) Day!
KGEFCU turned a day of celebration into a week long of events! International Credit Union (ICU) Day celebrates the spirit of the global credit union movement. The day is recognized to reflect upon the credit union movement’s history, promote its achievements, recognize the hard work and share member experiences. International Credit Union (ICU) Day has been celebrated on the third Thursday of October since 1948.
The 2017 International Credit Union Day theme - “Dreams Thrive Here” - illustrates how credit unions and other financial cooperatives serve as catalysts to make different professions, personal choices and career paths for the members of our community.
From October 16th through October 20th, KGEFCU celebrated along with more than 56,000 credit unions from around the world! KGEFCU events included a wide range of activities and services from our community. The Kauai Museum and Grove Farm museum allowed our members free entry all week!
KGEFCU hosted secure document deconstruction, organized a coloring contest for Wilcox Elementary first grade classes, County of Kauai recycling program, the Kauai Fire Department demonstrated
fire extinguisher safety, Kauai Police Department informed our members of the Neighborhood Watch program, and announced our official drop off location for Cell Phones For Soldiers cell phone recycling program. Thank you Kauai for supporting your Credit Unions. Dreams really do thrive here!

CEO CORNER KGEFCU BOARD APPROVES 1% SPECIAL DIVIDEND! During the November 30th board meeting, KGEFCU approved this special 1% dividend to be paid to members based upon their primary share account balance as of October 31, 2017. This special dividend will be credited on or before December 31, 2017.
Previous years of financial planning positioned the credit union with the ability to distribute this special
dividend. Deposited directly to the members’ primary share account, it is a reward for years of membership and for choosing to use financial products and services offered by a member-owned financial cooperative. KGEFCU is an organization that operates with the purpose of people helping people.
Your board recognizes the value of member loyalty. We appreciate your contribution to your Credit Union’s safety and soundness. It is member deposits that allow us to make loans back to other members who need them. As a member-owner of KGEFCU, you are also striving to help others in your community!
We are wrapping up another stellar year, as confirmed by our net earnings and commemorated by Hawaii Business Magazine’s recognition of KGEFCU at one of Hawaii’s Most Profitable Businesses in 2017. Nothing gives us more joy than giving back profits in the form of dividends to our members!
Also in November, it was our turn to host the monthly CEO breakfast. Naturally, our special guest was former KCFCU CEO, Mel Chiba, who retired this time last year. Since this was the last time I would host the CEO breakfast before I retire, I chose to “bring it home” to Kauai—to share the beauty of our island with other CEOs from around the state and to share this special dividend with our members. ‘Tis the season for sharing!
Happy Holidays and the very best to you in the New Year.
