The Grapes of Wrath - by John Steinbeck First published in 1939, Steinbeck’s Pulitzer Prize-winning epic of the Great

Depression chronicles the Dust Bowl migration of the 1930s and tells the

story of one Oklahoma farm family, the Joads—driven from their homestead

and forced to travel west to the promised land of California. Out of their trials

and their repeated collisions against the hard realities of an America divided

into Haves and Have-Nots evolves a drama that is intensely human yet

majestic in its scale and moral vision, elemental yet plainspoken, tragic but

ultimately stirring in its human dignity. A portrait of the conflict between the

powerful and the powerless, of one man’s fierce reaction to injustice, and of

one woman’s stoical strength, the novel captures the horrors of the Great

Depression and probes into the very nature of equality and justice in

America. At once a naturalistic epic, captivity narrative, road novel, and

transcendental gospel, Steinbeck’s powerful landmark novel is perhaps the

most American of American Classics.

CLERK OF SESSION REPORT

Reported that all reports due to Presbytery have been completed and submitted.

Reviewed the list emailed to Session members regarding Active (G-1.0402) and Other

(G-1.404) and the disposition of the same. By consensus, the Clerks was directed to remove these

members form the register with the understanding that if any return to active service to the church they

will be returned to the Active Roll in the Church Register. This information is pertinent to the General

Assembly Statistical Report due January 31, 2020.

Also reported that with the last Statistical Report, we are being charged for 196 members. With having

talked with Presbytery, if there is a 10% drop in membership a reduction in the per capita charge could be

reduced.

CHRISTIAN EDUACATION

A lengthy report was held with various ideas and concerns as to the curriculum, organization and staffing

of whether it be a Sunday School or Junior Church. Suggestion made that when a staff of volunteers is

formed that a meeting be held with the children and parents to ascertain the amount of commitment.

FINANCE

It was also reported by Dave that the 2018 per capita debt has been paid in full.

MUSIC AND WORSHIP

Paul Moore reported that the Spring Choir Festival will be held March 29, 2020 at the Scott United

Methodist Church.

OLD BUSINESS

Financing for the AEDs was discussed and contacts to purchase as a donation are to be made.

NEW BUSINESS

Jack Kibble requested that the job title of Keith Wilson be changed from Secretary/ Media Coordinator to

Office Manager/Media Coordinator. After a light-hearted discussion by consensus it was approved

effective immediately.
