As we come to the end of this liturgical year, a

Year of Mercy, we celebrate the solemnity of

Christ the King of the Universe. Throughout this

past year the Word of God has been guiding us

to make room and meet at a personal level this

God of Mercy. This weekend we have the

opportunity to declare our faith and loyalty to God’s Mercy made

person in Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. By His obedience to the will

of the father He has been made the true leader who is the way to the

Father, and by whose authority we are made coheirs of God’s promises.

The mission we have been entrusted is to proclaim God’s mercy for all

living creatures. To preach the good news of God’s limitless love and

make disciples for the Kingdom. Here at St. Timothy’s we have been

blessed with a vibrant community that answers this call every day in a

multitude of ways. One aspect that makes this mission possible is your

financial support.

Every year we have the opportunity to review the financial aspect of

our parish community. The numbers are important, if we are to

maintain a healthy operating system of the parish’s administration,

programs and outreach. The financial report for the fiscal year 2015-

2016 is in the bulletin. I invite you to please look at it and if you have

any questions or comments, please don’t hesitate to contact the parish

office.

The news that we have been incorporated in one Pastorate with St.

Katherine Drexel, and thus we enter into a new relationship with that

parish, may cause you to be anxious about the future of St. Timothy’s

as the familiar church you know and love. This is understandable, but

the plans for St. Timothy’s are not immediate and could change in the

future, and it is important that St. Timothy maintains a position of

financial strength in order to meet the future head on.

Giving of your treasure is yet another way of recognizing that all we

are and all we have are gifts from God. It is a way of saying “Thank

you” to God for His many blessings. And, the blessing of our parish

community. St. Timothy’s parish cannot survive without the generosity

of our parishioners. Funds are needed to perform charity and service

functions, to pay staff, and to maintain our lovely house of worship.

Our programs are still robust and growing, and so our costs are still

the same. We count on your Offertory support to pay for utilities,

salaries, programs, supplies, maintenance items, and other costs

important to our mission to spread the gospel message. Our staff and

many volunteers intend to continue evangelizing while cutting

expenses, watching our budget, and keeping in mind that we need to

be careful stewards of the money you entrust to St. Timothy’s.

I want to thank you for the support and generosity you showed day

in and day out to our parish community. Know of my prayers and

appreciation. Pax, Fr. Juan.

Calling all G.K Chesterton fans!

Deacon Rob is looking for fellow Chesterton enthusiasts to help start a local

Chesterton Society. Chesterton (1874-1936) was a convert to the Catholic

Church, who wrote over a hundred books during his lifetime (including the

Father Brown detective series) and published over five thousand essays in

newspapers and magazines. One of the most quoted writers in the English

language, yet one of the least studied, G.K. Chesterton foresaw and wrote

about the issues we struggle with today: social injustice, the culture of

death, the decline of the arts, assaults on religion, and attacks on the family

and on the dignity of the human person. The American Chesterton Society

(ACS), founded in 1996, works to promote interest in G.K. Chesterton. The

mission of the ACS is accomplished through local chapters. Currently, there

is no chapter in Frederick County; the nearest being in Baltimore and

Hagerstown. Deacon Rob is interested in creating a Frederick County Chapter

of the ACS to help appreciate and promulgate the writings and thinking of

G.K. Chesterton. One objective is to better equip members to understand

their faith and to evangelize more effectively. Other important objectives

are to have fun and meet fellow Chesterton fans. A hallmark of any

Chesterton meeting is food, drink, and fellowship. If you are interested

in helping or in learning more about G.K. Chesterton, please contact Deacon

Rob at [email protected].”

We are planning to set up the new tabernacle

in the main church on the first weekend of

Advent, November 27th. I ask you to consider

donating toward the fund to pay for the

refurbishing of the tabernacle and the stand

where it will be placed. Please use this form

for your donations.

Blessings, Fr. Juan.

Sunday, July 24, 2016 Meditation and Questions for Reflection or Group Discussion Mass Readings: 1st Reading: Genesis 18:20-32 2nd Reading: Colossians 2:12-14 Responsorial: Psalm 138:1-3,6-8 Gospel: Luke 11:1-13 Deepening Our Relationship with Our Heavenly Father through Prayer He will get up to give him whatever he needs. (Luke 11:8) Imagine the situation: you are traveling through ancient Palestine and arrive in a village far later at night than you had planned. No inns are open here, and your empty stomach sinks as you realize the only option left is knocking on the door of an old friend. You know the culture, which dictates that it would be extremely rude and inhospitable not to welcome a guest. But that doesn’t make it any less embarrassing. You arrive at his house close to midnight and pause. Like most families of this time, they live in a one-room house. Knocking on the door means disturbing not just your friend, but his wife and children; they could be up until sunrise settling the children down again! You hesitate, weighing the awkwardness of imposing yourself against the exasperation your friend will surely show. Finally, rousing all your boldness, you knock. Many of us experience a strong social instinct to be “low maintenance,” to avoid ruffling feathers or putting undue pressure on those around us. This desire comes from a good place. We want to love people, not burden them. But in today’s Gospel, Jes us tells us that we should have no such hesitation in our relationship with God. The guest, pestering his friend, is our model of unembarrassed petition. And when his request is not immediately granted, he is not discouraged but continues “pestering.” In some countries, the phrase “God botherer” is used as a derogatory term for Christians. In fact, this parable shows us that, not only are we to “bother” God constantly with prayer, but he urges us to. Our heavenly Father loves nothing more than hearing his children’s petitions. So don’t hold back from asking big things from God because you think you’re asking for too much. Just keep on knocking! “Lord, I present my needs and desires before you. Give me the courage to come to you without any hesitation.” (Many thanks to The Word Among Us (www.wau.org) for allowing us to use meditations from their monthly devotional magazine.
