April 14 & 15, 2018
Did you hear?....By now I am sure you have heard that a donor has offered a challenge to help us finish our fundraising for the new parking lot, lighting, security, additional parking spaces and landscaping, that we wish to do this summer. 550 households got us off to a great start but our donors want to encourage more households to participate since we
will all benefit from the improvements. So…every gift/pledge made from this point forward will be matched dollar for dollar up to $100,000! What a generous offer. If you haven’t made your gift/pledge, it will now be doubled. If you give $1,000 it will actually be $2,000, $500 will be $1,000, $50 will be $100 etc. I am sure this will put us over the top and we won’t have to dig into our savings to make up the difference. We need our savings for unforeseen needs that come up in the ordinary care of this wonderful parish campus. Oh yes, and if you have already made your pledge and want to increase it to take advantage of the match, you can still do so. Just make sure it is clearly marked as an “addition” to an already made pledge.
Special Guest…Next Sunday, Father Michael Joncas will be our guest at each of the morning Masses. He is a priest of the Archdiocese of St. Paul/Minneapolis. In addition to his many roles as a pastor and teacher, Father Joncas is also a very accomplished composer of church music. You will probably recognize some of his songs—“On Eagle’s Wings” and “I Have Loved You” are perennial favorites. Father Joncas will also speak at the appreciation luncheon for all of our liturgical ministers after 10:30 Mass. Then our music ministry will join Father in preparing for and celebrating an Evening Prayer service at 5:00 pm. This will be a great day for the parish.

WALK IN BEAUTY AND NONVIOLENCE When we were little children, we are often asked, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” As we get older, the answer becomes clear —we want to be loving, good, and honorable. In a world apprehensive with turbulence, anxiety and violence, it seems wise to spend a few hours refocusing on God’s call to love; God’s invitation to be the person we want to be. Beauty and nonviolence are two doorways that can lead us to our best selves and to God. This time together will encourage us to reclaim beauty and nonviolence as virtues in our lives. Join us on Saturday, April 21, 9:00 am-12 noon in Mary’s Place. This event is hosted by Sr Susan & the DSM Sister Council; Presenter is Sr Elena Hoye. No registration is necessary.
CATHOLIC CIRCLE OF FAITH (CCOF)NEEDS VOLUNTEERS Habitat for Humanity needs volunteers to help with a build starting on April 25. (Most days one of the churches brings lunch for about 20-25 people to cover volunteers, families earning sweat equity, and Habitat staff.) ▲▲▲ ODDS & ENDS
Many of you who hold meetings at OLIH start them off with the Sunday reading, a reflection on it and questions to help you see how it relates to your own life and in your relationship with Jesus. In an attempt to make this an experience the whole parish can share, these same questions are printed here and on our website.
· Why was it important for the disciples to know Jesus’ body was real? (hands & feet, eating fish)
· How are we called to be “witnesses of these things”, i.e. repentance, for the forgiveness of sins being preached
to all the nations.
THE 5TH
ANNUAL SPARKLE RUN The festivities begin Sunday, May 6, at the DMACC Campus in Ankeny with family activities and packet pick-up from 12:00 pm–2:00 pm, a 5k walk/run at 2:00 pm and a 1-Mile Fun Run at 3:00 pm. This annual event is held in memory of Erin Moomey (OLIH parishioner) who passed away in October 2013 at the age of 11 years old from complications of leukemia. The proceeds raised will be donated to the Pinky Swear Foundation whose mission is to help kids with cancer and their families with financial and emotional support.
You may register for the event online at www.getmeregistered.com/TheSparkleRun through May 2. (For shirt, must register by April 16.)
MARY’S MEALS RUN Your registration, whether 10K or 5K, walking or running, feeds one hungry child in Malawi for the entire school year! Sign up MarysMealsRun.com. To be held Saturday, May 12, 9:00 am at Valley Junction.
ANNUAL DIOCESAN APPEAL Many thanks to our parishioners who have already made a pledge for the Annual Diocesan Appeal. If you haven’t already made your pledge, please consider a gift of any size. Our goal is 100 % participation! Funds from the appeal cover priest medical insurance, health care, and retirement benefits as well as seminarians’ education. The ADA also supports our Catholic schools, faith formation, marriage and family ministry, Hispanic ministry, diaconate formation, Catholic Charities and many more diocesan-wide initiatives.
WATCHING THE LITTLE ONES
Could you give up an hour and a half one Sunday morning a month to watch our little ones in the Nursery? Give their parents a chance to hear the word of God and come back ready to share it with their domestic church. Contact Molly or Laura at [email protected] if you would like to be included on the
upcoming schedule.
