NEWS FROM THE NEST

Ways and Means Wednesday is Wednesday, November 7th! Remember to bring in your Box Tops and Community Coffee labels. Treat yourself to a night away from the kitchen and help raise money for our school by ordering Papa John’s pizza. Birthday Lunch – Friday, November 9th – We will celebrate the birthday of those students having a birthday in the months of October, November, and December. We are looking forward to celebrating with the students and guests! From November 2nd-12th, we will be collecting food items for Thanksgiving baskets, which will be donated to families in need. With your support and the help of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, we hope to donate more than 30 baskets to local families. The children will be receiving a handout later this week indicating which nonperishable food your child's class is asked to

bring. Thank you in advance for your generosity! For information or to assist with this event, contact our Committee Chairperson Cara Joseph at [email protected]. Veterans Day is November 11, 2018. Our Veterans Day Committee will be showing gratitude to all of our veterans for their years of dedication and loyal service to our country by setting up a display in the cafeteria to honor our family members. The display may be viewed November 7th – November 14th. Mark your calendar for our annual St. Nick’s Workshop. Please see the Tuesday Note attachments for information on our wonderful Christmas event that will be held Tuesday, November 27th – Thursday, November 29th. The children will embrace the spirit of giving as they shop for family members. It takes many volunteers each day to make this event a success. If you would like to volunteer, please contact our chairperson Kristyn Kennedy at [email protected]. We are looking forward to this fun time for our students, and appreciate all of our volunteers. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact a PTCC board member. Have a great week!

ROSARY GROUP All Our Lady of the Lake School parents and grandparents are invited to pray the rosary. The OLL School Rosary Group will typically meet the third Wednesday of the month at 7:45 a.m. in the church. Check the schedule below, as some months are irregular. The rosary is a powerful prayer that allows us to meditate on the life of Jesus and to get closer to Christ through his blessed mother, Mary. In the 1950s, Pope Pius XII said, “We put great confidence in the Holy Rosary for the healing of evils which afflict our times.” Those words ring true still today. Join us as we implore the help of Our Lady and pray this powerful prayer, The Rosary, each month.

Dear Parents,

Our Lady of the Lake School will be assembling Thanksgiving baskets for the less fortunate families in our community. As always, we encourage children to become involved with this project by donating food to families in need. Each class has been assigned certain food items, as is referenced in the attached list. We are asking each child to bring the assigned food to assist in creating the baskets. In addition, we have requested each class to create a Thanksgiving card to be included with the basket. We hope to assemble 33 baskets, representing each class at OLL.

Please note, we will kick off our food drive with on Friday, November 2nd. In anticipation of the LSU v. Alabama game, students may donate $2 or more to wear purple, gold, or LSU, and all money raised will be used to purchase turkeys for each basket. We will also begin our collection of the assigned non-perishable food during the week of November 2nd. The deadline for your child to bring in his/her donation is Tuesday, November 13th .

If you have any questions or would like to assist in preparing the baskets, please feel free to contact me. Thank you for your generosity.

God Bless,

Cara Joseph (985-778-7597) [email protected] Thanksgiving Basket Project Committee Chair

St. Nick’s Workshop is a wonderful Christmas event. The children will embrace the spirit

of giving as they shop for parents and siblings. They will be allowed to shop during a

pre-determined class time. Our workshop is stocked with items available for purchase

ranging in price from $1.00 - $8.00. Gift wrapping is available for an additional $1.00.

This is a great opportunity to help children in learning the value of money and being

able to spend within their given budget. This PTCC fundraising event helps to raise

money for our school. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions.
