With Hands to Serve and Hearts to Love
NOTE FROM OUR PRINCIPAL
Next week, we celebrate Catholic Schools Week. Here is a schedule of all the exciting events taking place during this very special week of celebration of our school community:
Sunday—In Our Parish: We begin Catholic Schools Week in church with our Open House Liturgy at 9:30am, organized by the 8
th grade class. After Mass, come and visit our classrooms
in the school and preschool, meet with our teachers, parents, and visitors who are here to learn about our school. Refreshments will be served at the school. Monday—In Our Community: We will start the day with morning assembly in the gym, and we
will introduce service projects to our students. Our students will begin writing letters of appreciation to those who serve in our parish community, our city, state, and nation. We will reach
out to our civic leaders and leaders within our diocese. Tuesday—In Our Students: We celebrate our students by taking them roller skating at the Rink in Sacramento from 12:00 to 2:45. Drivers needed! Please note – this is also Winter Sports Picture Day. Wednesday—In Our Nation: We celebrate our nation, and we also celebrate our basketball teams at a Sports Rally at 2:15. This will also be Pajama Day. Thursday—In Our Vocations: Sister Libby Fernandez, executive director of Mustard Seed, will be here to share with our students information about vocations, the Corporal Works of Mercy, and her work with Loaves and Fishes. This will be a 3:00 p.m. release day. Friday—In Our Families: We will end Catholic School Week with Mass at 11:00 a.m. prepared by our 4
th Grade
class. Friday is a minimum day.
Schoolwide Field Trip on Tuesday—Drivers Needed! Next Tuesday, all of our students will be skating at the Rink in Sacramento. Field trip forms are being passed out today. Please bring them back signed tomorrow. We are in need of drivers for the trip. When turning in the forms, please let us know if you can drive. Because our entire school is going, we need a lot of drivers, and we hope that you can help. We will be leaving OLA at 12:00 noon on Tuesday, leaving the Rink at 2:30 p.m., and returning to school by 3:00 p.m.
A Drive to Support the Mustard Seed School at Loaves and Fishes Next Thursday, Sister Libby Fernandez will be on campus to share with our students the good works that are done every day at Loaves and Fishes. Since this week our school will be focusing on the Corporal Work of Mercy of “Welcoming the Stranger,” we are blessed to have Sister Libby as a guest speaker. We want to greet Sister Libby with a gift that she can take back with her to Loaves and Fishes, so we are putting on a Healthy Snacks Food Drive for their Mustardseed School. Please see the attached flyer that lists the items needed and bring them to school between now and Thursday morning of next week. For more information on Loaves and Fishes, visit them at http://www.sacloaves.org/.

The Blue team beat St. Elizabeth Anne Seton and St. Michael’s to reach the Semi-Final game, where they ultimately lost to St John Notre Dame-Gold. Sunday, they played Holy Spirit to attempt to gain entry into the 3
rd place game, but they
lost to Holy Spirit in a closely contested game. The White team beat Holy Spirit, Presentation, and St. Ignatius-Green to reach the Final Game on Sunday night. Facing a tough St. John Notre Dame-Gold team, the White team worked to a 14 to 14 tie at the half. In the second half, OLA used great team defense and some hot shooting to pull away with the win, 48 to 38. Ryan Lourim was named to the all-tournament team for the Blue team, Mason Benbrook was named for the White team, and Ryan Tapia was named all-tournament player by the St. Charles Tournament Director. The highlight of the tournament was the camaraderie shown by each OLA team and by the St. Ignatius Green team in support of each other throughout the tournament. To whom it may concern:
We are grateful for your interest in supporting the growth and development of the next
generation. The Our Lady of the Assumption 8th
grade class is raising money to cover
the cost of a class trip to Washington D.C. this spring. The trip will highlight the history
of our nation, and the importance of each and every citizen taking action to make our
nation stronger. It is our hope that through this educational experience we will
strengthen the foundation of future leaders.
Our Lady of the Assumption School’s 4th
Annual Crab Feed takes place on February 20,
2016. The Crab Feed is a fundraiser for the Washington D.C. trip only. We greatly
appreciate any raffle items or donations. All proceeds of this fundraiser will go directly
to offset the travel expenses of the students.
Thank you for your support!
