Twenty-Fourth Sunday of Ordinary Time

From the Pastor Desk

ALTAR SERVERS On August 4, 2015 Pope Francis met with 9000 altar servers, young men and women from Austria, Germany and Italy. The pope told them that serving at the altar is a privileged way to draw closer to Jesus, which in turn “enables you to open yourselves to others, to journey together, to set demanding goals and to find the strength to achieve them.” If you are a young person in the fourth to twelfth grade and would like to respond to this invitation by serving at the altar here at Our Lady of Sorrows, please talk with Fr. Daly or contact the parish office at [email protected]

CATECHISTS NEEDED Handing on the faith is a noble and generous role played out over many centuries by believers whose own faith is strengthened in the very doing. We all know of teachers who imparted something special at a young age the memory of which will live as long as we do. We are in need of two such noble and generous people of faith to be catechists for grades 3 and 5. Consider it please. We will give you training and support. The Lord will give you confidence also as you share something that has been such an important part of your life. CHOIR RETREAT Last Saturday, 9/9, the members of our choir led by Daesik Cha met for a retreat. I was able to go for some of it and I was deeply impressed and touched. As a pastor, it made me thank God that such beautiful, deeply spiritual events are happening in our parish. I will discuss with the group making this available to a wider audience in the parish during Advent or Lent. There were moments of prayer, prayerful reflection on music and its role in liturgy, learned discussion on the history and theology of liturgical music. Congratulations to Daesik and the Choir for an extraordinary spiritual experience and the beauty they bring to our celebrations. INTERFAITH I participated in the monthly interfaith meeting of clergy on September 6. We discussed the annual Thanksgiving Service which this year I believe will be on Sunday evening November 19,2017. We were also invited to be honored guests at High Holydays later this month. I invited them to my installation Mass also. This was my second meeting of the Interfaith group. They are welcoming, interesting and deeply committed colleagues.

HURRICANE COLLECTION Thank you for your generosity in the second collection for victims of the hurricanes last Sunday. You donated $4300. You opened your wallets/purses and hearts. Thanks. WORK A parishioner with experience in finance is looking for work. If you have leads or can help in any way, contact me in person or at [email protected] and I will make the connection.

Clergy Health & Retirement Trust Second Collection September 24th

The diocese-wide collection next week will support the Clergy Health and Retirement Trust which cares for the health and well-being of our priests. In the Archdiocese of Boston, we are blessed to have 590 men who have devoted their lives to serving Christ and His family. Your gift to this collection will help provide our priests with an appropriate level of care and quality of life so they can continue sharing the good news, performing good works, and spreading good faith. Remember the priests who have been there in your time of need, and consider honoring them with a generous gift to this special collection. You may also make your gift online at clergytrust.org . Thank you for your generous and prayerful support of our priests.
