Children’s Liturgy of the Word is celebrated at the 10am Mass. Children ages 4 TO 8 are invited to gather in the Daily Mass Chapel during the liturgy to listen to and participate in the Liturgy of the Word in a way that is relevant to their young lives. They return to their family before the celebration of the Eucharist. No registration is necessary, however we do ask that only children between those ages attend.

A group is forming again this fall: Discernment Sept. 17th @ 6pm, St. Michael Hall

This is not a Bible Study, it is not a book study, it is not a self-help group, it is not a recovery or loss group. It does not aim at filling ministry spots or looking for volunteers. It is a practice in holy listening and a way of deepening your spirituality and personal relationship with Christ.

EngagingSPIRITUALITY is:

… a search for an undivided and connected life. … an invitation to practice living spaciously and gracefully. … an exploration that reinforces our link to God and our responsibility to life. … all about connecting — widening our circle of care. … other-focused — offering our presence in concrete ways to needy places. … bold and risky discipleship. … being present, aware, awake, and seeking to live simply. … choosing courageous involvement with life. … open to reconciling, healing and growing. … resolutely gentle and challenging.

For more information contact: Tina at xt118 or [email protected]

The Discernment is for you to gather information and to experience what EngagingSPIRITUALITY is all about.

Then you decide.

Healing Ministry

The Healing Ministry reaches out to those unable to gather at our parish family table on Sundays. A growing population of Catho-lics in our community are home-bound or living in nursing and personal care centers. Many of these individuals have been ac-tive, lifelong members of a par-ish and they miss participating in the liturgy. The parish’s Healing Ministers help to fill that gap. Through the sharing of the word of God and Holy Communion, the minister now “carries” the care of the parish family to the homebound and sick. We have many faithful ministers who visit our homebound and sick, still more help is needed. Is this ministry of care and presence calling you? Are you wondering how you can help? Please consider joining one of the healing ministries and make a difference to those who are unable to join us for our Sunday Celebration. Please con-tact Julie Hall at ext. 115 or [email protected], to find out how you can help, where help is needed, and what might best fit your schedule.

The Breathe Respite Team at OLMC would love to have you join us as we host monthly Friday Fun Nights for fami-lies of children/adults with special needs. Parents take a break while we have fun with the kids. Who can volun-teer? Adults, college students and youth (15 and older). Interested in being a buddy? SPRED (Special Religious Development) invites you to consider becoming a “helper catechist” to a special friend this year. We currently have additional friends who have expressed an interest in participating in a new group, and we need mentors to walk the journey with them. SPRED is designed to form adult communities of faith into which adults with intellectual disabilities are welcomed. This ministry provides a way for the participants to en-counter God in community, in a manner that is appropri-ate to their gifts. Please consider whether the Lord is calling you to offer the gift of yourself in this ministry. Contact Miki Leurck at 596-7162 or Christa Blomstrom at 595-0385 ext. 119 for more details.

Our Lady of Mount Carmel School News

OLMC School has served families in the Hampton Roads area for over 60 years, teaching the whole child in the tradition of the Catholic Church and of the Nashville Dominicans. With a mission rooted in the Gospel and in the Church, the school receives and participates in the great command of Jesus Christ to “go and teach all nations.” With morning and afternoon prayers, weekly attendance at Mass, and daily religion clas-ses, the OLMC school community values the life and teaching of Jesus Christ.

OLMC School has long enjoyed a reputation for academic excellence, which was magnified in 2009 when it was awarded the National Blue Ribbon of Excellence for its sustained, distinguished academic achievement. The Blue Ribbon is a national recognition of what the students have always received at OLMC – a strong foundation in academics, morals, and discipline. The students and teachers, supported by the wider parent community and the parish, engage in teaching and learning in a creative, warm, Christ-centered environment.
