The Parish Staff of Our Lady of Mount Carmel

welcomes you as we celebrate together the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ.

We hope you will enjoy

this special bulletin filled with Scripture, poetry, and quotes to use throughout the

Easter season in addition to Mount Carmel news.

Let us rejoice in the Lord

and glorify Him! His love endures forever!

Alleluia!

Wishing each of you a Blessed Easter!

Mary Magdalene was the first to discover that the tomb where Jesus

has been buried was empty. Peter and John soon realized, too,

that Jesus is risen!

EASTERBLESSINGS

Dear Brothers and Sisters of Our Lady of Mount Carmel,

At the time I writing this – 7:00 AM Tuesday – in order to meet the early Holy Week deadline for bulletin transmission, there are more than 7,462,000,000 human beings on God’s good earth. That’s more than 7 billion! Of that number, 1.2 billion of them are identified as Roman Catholic, with 40% of those persons living in Latin America.

How did that come about? As we both know, Jesus of Nazareth began his life in an inconspicuous part of the Roman Empire and was put to death by those same Roman authorities for being a trouble maker and a rabble rouser.

Nonetheless, we are here in this church this morning retelling the events of his death and his resurrection for the two thousandth time. That is the reason the story has stayed alive for two millennia. We repeat it every year.

Repetition is the key. We keep telling it and we keep trying to honor the Way of Lord Jesus as faithfully as we can. Some of the people who walk this way participate every day, others come every week and some participate every year.

But each one tries to live it as best as one can. The result of our common efforts is that our faith is still very much alive. The message of Jesus is heard and followed around the globe, not perfectly by any of us, as we well know, but it is still alive.

Those of you who have been listening to me for three years now, have noted that I often express some pessimism–the fear that our Christian way is slipping and sliding into obsolescence. Yes, I do worry about that. But today I am buoyed. Your presence today affirms that you are still following the Way as best you can.

Thank you for being here. Thank you for being counted as one of the 1.2 billion who believe that not only did Jesus die two thousand years ago, but three days after his death he rose again, and that has made all the difference!

Happy Easter, dear Church family. Happy Easter!

Sincerely yours in Christ and Our Lady of Mount Carmel,

fr. Dan [email protected]

“Welcome Jesus as a Friend

Let the Risen Jesus enter your life; welcome him as a friend, with trust: he is life! If up till now you have kept him at a distance, step forward. He will receive you with open arms. If you have been indifferent, take a risk; you won’t be disappointed. If following him seems difficult, don’t be afraid; trust him, be confident that he is close to you. He is with you, and he will give you the peace you are looking for and the strength to live as he would have you do.”

To All Who Love Him

O God of the Universe, you shed your glory, your majesty, your omnipotence to become human, as Jesus Christ-- to get close to us, to connect with us, to be our role model and guide for living. O God of the Universe, you became the human Jesus Christ, to know us, to feel all we feel, to show us how much you love us by taking within yourself all our sins. O God of the Universe, you felt not just one person's pain but the pain of all of us, to wash us clean and bond with us, your creation, your children. O God of the Universe, you proved your transcendent holy power by rising from the dead, a sign that all of us who believe in You will also rise to be with You eternally. The resurrection of Jesus Christ is the "Happy" in "Happy Easter." Happy Easter to all those who love Him.

By Joanna Fuchs

Everyone is invited for hospitality after the 10 AM Mass on Sunday, April 15th in the Auditorium! We look forward to seeing you!

“Your resurrection has washed away our sins, restored our innocence, and brought us joy. How inestimable is

the tenderness of your love!”

“God’s Love: Stronger Than Death

We, too, like the women who were Jesus’ disciples, who went to the tomb and found it empty, may wonder what this event means (cf. Luke 24:4). What does it mean that Jesus is risen? It means that the love of God is stronger than evil and death itself; it means that the love of God can transform our lives and let those desert places in our hearts bloom. The love of God can do this!”

Some fun facts about Easter eggs…

Eggs are a symbol of new life and giving decorated Easter eggs as gifts celebrate new life. As Christians, we remember Jesus’ resurrection from the dead and the empty tomb on Easter. Eggs are a symbol of Jesus’ resurrection. The act of rolling Easter eggs is symbolic of rolling away the stone at the entrance to Jesus’ tomb. A cracked open egg represents the empty tomb.
