LITURGY CORNERHere is a prayer or grace you can use at yourChristmas Dinner and during the ChristmasSeason:

God of great gentleness,

in love you give us these days of Christmasto be our joy and delight.

Hold us close to each other.Unite us in spirt with those who are distant.

By your coming may the hungrybe filled with good things.

Gather all your children in Bethlehem, where we will join with Mary and Joseph,

with the animals and angels, and with all the stars of heaven

in singing your praise:Glory to God in the highest!

And peace to God’s people on earth!

May you have a blessed and joy-filled Christmas season with all your loved ones!

FAITH AT HOME“Peace on Earth”...these words echo throughour hearts and minds during this season.Christmas gives us the opportunity to stop and

remember the peaceful moments. What peacefulmoments??? “I have soooo much to do beforeChristmas! There is never enough time: for gift buying, decorating, and the list goes on and on. Will I ever getthings done on time for Christmas? How many timeshave we all, at one time or another repeated thesesame words? The joy and peace of Christmas issometimes lost in the rush to prepare for that one day, when we can truly be filled with joy and peace. Wereturn to that peaceful night long ago. In the darkness ofthe night one star shines bright to lead the way toBethlehem. In a manger we find a new born baby. Weenter the sacred place and kneel before the Prince ofPeace. Our hearts are filled with wonder and awe at thisprecious baby. We feel the stillness of the night and thelove that surrounds this place and time. If only this nightcould last forever...If only this peaceful feeling couldspread...and reach all the way to the ends of theearth...and touch each person’s heart. Oh, if only...It can! Share the joy and peace of Christmas! Make itlast a lifetime - not just one day! May you and your family have a blessed Christmas!

CHRISTMAS/OPLATKI BREADThe breaking of the Christmas wafer is a customthat began in Poland in the 10th century and ispracticed by people of Polish ancestry around theworld. It is considered the most ancient andbeloved of Polish traditions. The Christmas wafersymbolizes the unity of the family, which manyconsider to be the main pillar of society.

According to beliefs, the bond of unity should exist betweenfamily members. The father is seen as the link in theunbroken chain of One Body, One Bread, One Christ, andOne Church, while other family members join him in thiseternal procession. Page 5: OUR LADY OF MERCY The Roman Catholic Church of LADY OF MERCY The Roman Catholic Church of 90 WHIPPANY ROAD • WHIPPANY, NJ 07981 Served ... Reverend Francis Duffy …

Dear friends,

The wonderful celebration of Christmas is here again. The lights, the trees, the poinsettias, red hatsand the Christmas songs bring a lot of happy moments and good wishes to our hearts and minds fromfamily, friends, brothers and sisters within our faith community. There is excitement for Christmas. Malls are packed and there is more traffic than ever. People send Christmas Cards and gifts and it isreally nice to see that, humanly speaking, people are happy. I do enjoy this excitement. However, the first couple of years after I came to America, it was difficult for me to live the mystery of the Nativityof the Lord in a deep spiritual way. I got engaged in the culture of the “Secular Christmas”. It is stillbeautiful for me to meet with friends for Christmas and to toast with some good wine, but now, evenwhen I celebrate Christmas fully, I also get away from the noise and try to be more focussed on thevery mystery of the Nativity. I look to the manger and discover the tenderness of God in the babyJesus. I look to Mary and Joseph and I think about their trouble finding a place to give birth to the Sonof God. I find God becoming poor among the poor human beings and being born in a dirty stable. Thisis the real beauty of Christmas. It consists in the certainty that we are never alone since God becameone of us and understands what it means to be human. The Emmanuel-God is with us-is part of ourdaily life. He knows everything about us because He Himself went through our same life.

Here at OLM Christmas is not all about partying. Starting on Thanksgiving we collected many turkeysand a lot of food for the poor in Paterson. The pastor of Our Lady of Victories thanks you for yourgenerosity and wishes you Merry Christmas. Our Angel Giving Tree gave so many gifts this year. You are going to make many children and poor people happy. We had a wonderful Christmas Concertwhich gathered so many people from different churches in town and united them all in one faith singingtogether with joy to the One Saviour and Lord. We had Penance Services for our children and adults toprepare our hearts as a crib for Jesus to be born. We had Christmas celebrations with hugs andwishes of Merry Christmas. Some came to decorate and clean the Church and the Chapel to have themready for Christmas. I am so happy to be among you this Christmas 2017. OLM celebrates Christmas inthe right way.

On behalf of Fr. Milton, Deacon Kamil, our parish staff and myself, I would like to thank you all foreverything you do for our Parish Family. Once again thank you to our volunteers: our catechists whodedicate their time to our children, our Altar Servers (children and adults) who serve our liturgies, ourCommunion ministers who distribute the Eucharist on Sundays and bring communion to thehomebound, our Ushers and our Lectors who proclaim the Word of God with devotion and faith. Thankyou also to those in our Parish Choir; what a beautiful job you always do! Thank you to every group andorganization from our Parish: the Parish Council, the Finance Council, the Martha and Mary Society, theConcert Committee, the Knights of Columbus, the CYO team, the Health Ministry, the Prayer Shawlgroup, and Caring and Sharing …Thank you to all of you who contribute to our parish; we cannot doanything we do without your generous help. May God bless your efforts to support our Parish. You allmake OLM a wonderful community. You help each other to live deeply the true spirit of Christmas withall you do as a community of faith. I wish you all a very Merry Christmas! May our Lord and Saviour beborn in every one of us and among our parish Family!

Love and blessings,

Fr. Roberto
