Pastor’s Corner Bartimaeus, the blind man, calls out to

Jesus, “have pity on me!” Pity doesn’t exactly capture it. In the original Greek, the word is “eleison.” Does this sound familiar? During the Penitential Rite, we sometimes say: Kyrie, eleison, Christe, eleison, Kyrie, eleison. Like Bartimaeus, we repeat his words and call out to Jesus. This plea is more than just asking for forgiveness. It is a plea for Jesus to help us in any way we need his help. Jesus asks Bartimaeus, “What do you want me to do for you?” He asks us the same question. Once Bartimaeus has an encounter with Jesus, his blindness is healed. He is able to see and he follows Jesus on the way.

All of us can experience spiritual blindness. We can allow our selfishness, our opinions, our perspective to dominate our lives. This can narrow our vision and lead us to a spiritual blindness. The cure for this is a regular encounter with Jesus. Jesus helps us see things from his perspective. Help me, Jesus, to see people the way you see them. Help me to look at this situation with your eyes. Jesus, heal me of my spiritual blindness.

On Tuesday, Bishop Schlert will visit our parish to celebrate the sacrament of Confirmation for 24 of our students from Our Lady of Mercy and St. Anthony. The Confirmation Mass begins at 4:30. Please keep them in your prayers as they complete their Christian Initiation.

On Thursday, November 1, the Church celebrates All Saints Day. Since it is Holy Day of Obligation, we will have 3 masses on that day: an 8 am, 12:10 pm and a 7 pm mass. The vigil mass will be Wednesday, Oct 31 in Spanish.

During the month of November, we remember all of our faithful departed. We believe that our prayers, especially the offering of the mass, frees them from any attachment to sin and purifies them to experience the promise of eternal life – heaven. With the All Souls envelope, please include the names of your deceased family and friends. We will place them on the altar during the month of November.

On Monday Nov. 5 at 7:00 pm, we have our Mass of Remembrance. At this mass, we specifically remember all of our deceased relatives especially those who have died in the past year. All are invited to attend.

Have a great week! Fr. Keith

Fr. Keith

New Parishioners Welcome! Please see the Priest after Mass

Remembering our Deceased Loved Ones November 5th

The liturgical year closes in November. Many of the themes of Sunday mass during this time remind us of the last things-death, judgement, heaven and hell. As

you recall, one of the spiritual works of mercy is praying for the living and dead.

On Monday, November 5th at 7pm we will be celebrating a Mass of Remembrance. During this

mass, we remember all those individuals who have died from the parish in the last year. We also have the opportunity to pray for any of our deceased family & friends. You are invited to come earlier to write the

names of your loved ones in the Memorial Book. After Mass, please join us for some light refreshments in the

Social Hall. ___________________________________________

Every child is taught the Our Father, the Hail Mary and the Glory Be when they are young. But the

Church has a treasury of prayers from her tradition. Each month we would like to highlight a specific prayer and invite you to pray it each day or even to memorize it where it will be secure within

your memory. Prayer For Healing Victims of Abuse

God of endless love,

ever caring, ever strong, always present, always just:

You gave your only Son to save us by the blood of his cross.

Gentle Jesus, shepherd of peace,

join to your own suffering the pain of all who have been hurt

in body, mind, and spirit by those who betrayed the trust placed in them.

Hear our cries as we agonize

over the harm done to our brothers and sisters. Breathe wisdom into our prayers, soothe restless hearts with hope, steady shaken spirits with faith:

Show us the way to justice and wholeness, enlightened by truth and enfolded in your

mercy.

Holy Spirit, comforter of hearts, heal your people’s wounds

and transform our brokenness. Grant us courage and wisdom, humility and

grace, so that we may act with justice

and find peace in you. We ask this through Christ, our Lord. Amen.

Escucha nuestros gritos mientras agonizamos

y transforma nuestro quebrantamiento Danos valor y sabiduría, humildad y gracia,

Amen.
