The The The The Easter Triduum Easter Triduum Easter Triduum Easter Triduum is the church’s greatest and most important celebration. We celebrate Christ’s Paschal Mystery

of dying and rising to new life. The word Triduum means three days. Jewish tradition is to mark the day as

beginning at sundown and ending at sundown the next day. Since Jesus followed this tradition, the Church

also counts from one evening to the next.

Holy Thursday Holy Thursday Holy Thursday Holy Thursday ———— The anniversary of the Last Supper when Christ instituted the Eucharist.

Good Friday Good Friday Good Friday Good Friday — Jesus was nailed to the cross and crucified between two thieves. One of the thieves repented of

his sins and accepted Christ while on the cross beside him. At his death Jesus spoke his last words

“My God, My God, why have you forsaken me?” “My God, My God, why have you forsaken me?” “My God, My God, why have you forsaken me?” “My God, My God, why have you forsaken me?” A Roman solider then lanced Jesus’ side to ensure he was dead.

At the moment of Christ’s death, an earthquake occurred, powerful enough to open tombs. The curtain at the

Temple was torn from top to bottom. Following the incredible events of the day, the body of Christ was removed

from the cross and laid in a tomb.

The events of Good Friday are commemorated in the Stations of the Cross. It is a day of fasting and abstinence. Church bells are silent;

altars are left bare.

Definition: Sacrifice is the willingness to offer some-thing up to God, or dispose of one’s goods or service in charity and kindness for the good of another.

Scripture Reading: 1Peter 2: 5 “...Like having stones, let yourselves be built

into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood

to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God

through Jesus Christ.”

Prayer of Reflection: Blessed Jesus, you sacrificed your own life

for us. Help me to offer up something each

day to show my love for you and for the

good of others. Amen.

The Virtue of this week is: “ Sacrifice ”

PRAYER FOR FAMILY LIFE

God and Father of us all, in Jesus, your Son and our Savior, you have made us your sons and daughters in

the family of the Church. May your grace and love help our families in every part of the world be united

to one another in fidelity to the Gospel. May the example of the Holy Family, with the aid of your Holy

Spirit, guide all families, especially those most troubled, to be homes of communion and prayer and

to always seek your truth and live in your love, through Christ our Lord.

Amen.

Jesus, Mary and Joseph, pray for us !
