Diocesan Collection for Priest Retirement and Seminar-ian Collection will be from July - August Currently projected financial funding for our retired priests (and for the remainder of us who will retire) for the next ten years is underfunded by $970,000. For our seminarians the “financial picture” is even more challeng-ing. Currently projected financial funding for the next ten years is underfunded by $6.1 million, leav-ing the future funding for formation of men for priesthood a grave here in the Diocese of Yakima. In 2017, your marvelous response to the Special Collection for Priest Retirement and Seminarian Education resulted in the Church collecting a total of $247,017 towards funding these two most important needs. God has indeed blessed His Local Church with generous hearts! Camp Howard 2018 You are invited to camp Howard’s 245-acre wilderness setting, with a spectacular view of Mt. Hood, it will inspire youth from all walks of life to participate in the various activities provided during a week long ex-perience. With an on – site registered nurse. Located: Portland Oregon Summer Camp Register Online at www.camphoward.org for more infor-mation (503)231-9484 or [email protected] Men are welcome on Rachel’s Vineyard retreats The retreats are for any man or woman suffering after abor-tion. “Jennifer”, a retreat participant, reveals the special blessing that men bring to the retreat: “I used to consider post-abortion healing only a woman’s issue. As you know, men grieve too…but I never knew that. I can’t tell you how much the presence of men on the RV Retreat has helped me to heal. Abortion divides us. It divides mother from child and severs the love in many rela-tionships… I never realized that men suffer deep grief from this. I think we need each other to fully reconcile what this pain has done in our lives and to our relationships. The men who attended my retreat helped to restore my faith in men…and that is a miracle!” If God is calling you to hope and healing OR to minister to those in need of hope and healing here in our local commu-nity, please contact Lisa Petersen (509-421-7847 or [email protected])for more information. Your call will be kept completely confidential.

The First Reading from the prophet Ezekiel tells of how Ezekiel was called by God. The Lord speaks to him and says, “Hard of face and obstinate of heart are they to whom I am sending you.” God knew He was not giving Ezekiel an easy task, but that is part of what being called by the Lord sometimes involves. Be-ing called is something to which we often make reference, as each of us is called in Baptism. St. Paul once wrote that we are “called to belong to Jesus Christ.” The United States Bishops issued a document a few years ago titled Disciples Called to Witness. That is what we are all to do as baptized Catholics. In that treatise the Bishops say, “To create a culture of witness, we must live explicit lives of discipleship. Being a disciple is a challenge. Fortunately, one does not become a disciple of Christ on his or her own initiative. The work of the Holy Spirit within the Christian community forms the person as a disciple of Christ.” God does not forsake us when we are called, just as He did not abandon Ezekiel. He is with us through the Holy Spirit to strengthen us and assist us. We must allow the Lord to help us. At the same time, we must strive to be disciples of the Lord. We are called to spread the light of the Gospel in everything we do. Love for the Unborn and Our Eternal Reward In Luke Chapter 14:12-14, Jesus tells us that the good we do for those who cannot repay us in this world is the most beneficial, because He assures us that we will "be repaid in the resurrection of the just". Congressman Henry Hyde, one of the greatest pro-life advocates ever to serve in Congress, expressed this idea when he said: "When the time comes, as it surely will, when we face the awesome moment, the final judgment ...... those in the pro-life movement will not be alone. I think there'll be a chorus of voices that have never been heard in this world, but are heard beautifully and clearly in the next world ...and they will plead for everyone who has been in this movement. They will say to God, "Spare him, because he loved us". The unborn are even less able to repay us than the beggars and the crippled and the lame and the blind (to whom Jesus referred). At least, these poor people know that we love them and are able to say "Thank you". The child in the mother's womb not only has no voice whatsoever, but cannot even tell you "Thank you", in-deed, love and action for the unborn is the most selfless form of love. In this world, nothing comes from them in return The Scale Of The Tragedy The death count of Hitler's rampage is between 11--17 million

persons. Stalin also amassed a death count of between 10--20 million persons. Communist Chi-na's Mao Zedong is estimated to have killed 27--40 million people. According to the Guttmacher

Institute, the global abortion rate for the world is above 44 mil-lion babies a year! No doubt, this figure significantly underesti-mates the actual figure as this Institute is affiliated with the abor-tion industry. In terms of deaths, what we are doing today, or what we allow to continue is worse than what Hitler, Stalin, Mao, Mussolini, Pol Pot and other tyrants perpetrated. We cannot re-main silent and indifferent to the culture of death. We must be the voices of the innocents who have no voice. Proverbs 31:8: "Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves; ensure justice for those being crushed." Proverbs 25:26: "Like a muddied spring or a polluted fountain is a righteous man who gives way before the wicked." By Pro-Life Articles Author www.pro-lifearticles.org
